Launching The South Sudanese Lounge & Al‑Madâfah (المضافة): A New Home for Culture, Connection & Community

The Sudanese Mothers’ Coalition in Victoria (SMCV) is proud to announce the launch of The South Sudanese Lounge & Al‑Madâfah (المضافة)—a vibrant cultural space designed to honour our traditions of hospitality, unity, and collective care.

Rooted in South Sudanese and Arabic cultural values, Al‑Madâfah represents more than a gathering place. It is a community home where families can connect, share traditional meals, celebrate culture, build friendships, and strengthen belonging. This space reflects SMCV’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive environments where our community can come together with dignity, pride, and cultural integrity.

Through this initiative, SMCV aims to:

> foster intergenerational connection

> promote cultural learning and exchange

> strengthen community wellbeing

> provide a welcoming environment for families

> celebrate the richness of South Sudanese heritage

We extend our appreciation to our partners—JAMMA, the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY), the Centre for Migrant and Refugee Health (CMRH), and CatholicCare Victoria whose support has made this cultural milestone possible.

The South Sudanese Lounge & Al‑Madâfah stands as a testament to the resilience, unity, and cultural strength of our community. We look forward to welcoming families, elders, youth, and friends into this new space as we continue building a future grounded in connection, respect, and shared cultural pride.

Join us as we celebrate this important step forward for our community.
