Not a new face but a new role.

Vihara has been part of Hills Family GP for over three years, initially working as a medical receptionist while completing her Bachelor of Nursing at Western Sydney University. She now returns to the practice as a Registered Nurse.

Her experience at reception has enhanced her appreciation for clear communication and holistic, patient-centred care.

Throughout her training, she completed clinical placements in emergency, intensive care, acute medical and mental health settings, where she developed strong clinical judgement and a commitment to safe, evidence-based practice.

Whilst working here as a Registered Nurse Vihara is studying Medicine at Western Sydney University.

She is grateful to continue her journey with Hills Family GP and is committed to ensuring every patient feels heard, supported and cared for.

Today is World Kidney Day

Kidney disease occurs when your kidneys lose the ability to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood effectively. This can cause toxins to build up, leading to serious health issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and even kidney failure. Often called a “silent disease,” kidney problems may not show symptoms until much of the function is lost.

In Australia, one in three adults is at risk, making early detection vital. Simple blood and urine tests can help identify problems early, allowing for treatment and lifestyle changes to slow or even prevent further damage.

Have you had your kidneys checked in the last 12months? a simple blood and urine test can let you know how they are going. Book in to see one of our doctors.

Your kidneys play a vital role in your body. Without them, you would struggle to process toxins, and this would have a devastating impact on your health.

February is Ovarian Cancer Australia Awareness month.
Unfortunately, ovarian cancer can be vague and often difficult to diagnosis. It is very important you see your GP if you have any of the symptoms listed below that persist. Its important to also remember, many of these symptoms can be caused by other much less serious medical conditions, it is best to get checked. The earlier a cancer is found the more success there will be in treating it. The most commonly reported symptoms for ovarian cancer are:
-Increased abdominal size or persistent abdominal bloating
-Abdominal or pelvic (lower tummy) pain
-Feeling full after eating a small amount
-Needing to urinate often or urgently
-Additional Symptoms may include:
-Changes in bowel habits
-Unexplained weight gain or loss
-Excessive fatigue
-Lower back pain
-Indigestion or nausea
-Bleeding after menopause or in-between periods
-Pain during s*x or bleeding after

Held in February each year to educate, advocate and elevate awareness of ovarian cancer.

Australia has one of the best survival rates for breast cancer in the world. Although more people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, the mortality rate from breast cancer is going down.

Finding breast cancer early gives you the best chance of effective treatment.
You should examine your breasts regularly to be aware of anything that looks or feels different.

If you notice any changes in your breast that are new or unusual for you, you should see your doctor as soon as possible. Not all breast changes are cancerous (they may be ‘benign’ changes).

Do you know how to check your breasts??
