Equine Assisted Learning is a valid way to learn life skills, gain self confidence and self regulation.
I am proudly a registered NDIS provider and member of Animal Therapies Ltd.
Best practice is how we work.

ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY IS NOT AN NDIS SCAM

Ben Fordham recently described “horse therapy” as the latest NDIS scam. This misleading generalisation fails to distinguish recreational activities from legitimate animal-assisted therapy.

The NDIA confirms that animal-assisted therapy can be funded when delivered by a qualified health professional as part of a goal-directed, evidence-based treatment plan and when it meets NDIS funding requirements.

ATL supports action against fraud, inflated fees and inappropriate claiming. However, legitimate practitioners and participants should not be discredited because some providers misuse the system.

ATL has written to Ben Fordham to request a correction and has offered to provide accurate information about this specialised field.

Fraud should be exposed—but facts and professional distinctions matter.

🐴 Happy International Equine-Assisted Services Day!

Every July 29th, we celebrate the humans, horses, practitioners, and communities that make this work possible, and honor the legacy of Lis Hartel, who overcame polio to win two Olympic silver medals in dressage, becoming the first woman to medal in the sport at that level.

EAS work isn't about one final medal moment. Instead, it's about the next step, the next breakthrough, the next small win that builds into something bigger. Horses help us generously, each step of the way, just as they did with Lis. That's the heart of what we do every day at The HERD Institute.

Today we celebrate every horse, every practitioner, and every person who shows up for others.

💚 We'd love to hear about the impact Equine-Assisted Services have had in your life! Tell us in the comments ⬇️

Better Reading

Think Australia, Sydney 1931.
The height of the depression. People still recovering from World War I and poverty that we couldn’t imagine.
A beautiful girl from a middle class family finds herself thrust into the ravages of poverty through life’s challenges thrown her way.
When life hits rock bottom a “guardian angel” from a very different world steps in and shows her a world she doesn’t want to imagine only to find there is a rainbow hiding in the darkness.
Jackie French continues to keep you hoping and cheering for a resilient Connie as you journey along side her, through a terrible period in Australia’s history, impatiently waiting to turn the page and cheer her on or hold her tight.
A journey through time that keeps you hoping and surprised at each page turn, and an appreciation of women in one of Australia’s toughest periods in modern history.

My review of Jackie French’s latest book “The Diamonds of Tilly Devine”.

Not NDIS related but great escapism!

Learning has no age limit. This inspiring quote by Dr. Temple Grandin reminds us that individuals on the autism spectrum can continue developing new skills and achieving growth throughout their lives. With patience, support, and opportunity, lifelong learning remains possible at every stage of life.
