šŸ” Occupational Therapy & Home Modifications

As an Occupational Therapist, one of the most impactful ways we support people is by making their everyday environment safer, more accessible, and easier to use.

OT is all about improving functional ability, independence and quality of life. We work alongside individuals to understand the barriers in their daily routines and develop practical strategies to overcome them. Sometimes this means building new skills, prescribing adaptive equipment—or modifying the home environment so it truly works for the person.

✨ Home modifications can include:
šŸ”§ Structural changes, such as:
• Widening doorways for wheelchair access
• Installing grab rails to support safe bathroom transfers
• Adjusting bench or countertop heights for accessibility

šŸ’” Non-structural adaptations, such as:
• Smart home technology for easier control of lights, temperature and security
• Sensor-activated lighting to improve safety at night
• Slip-resistant flooring to reduce falls risk

Thoughtfully designed modifications don’t just make tasks easier—they promote safety, confidence, and independence.

By tailoring the environment to a person’s unique needs, OT helps create homes that support participation, dignity and choice—allowing individuals to live more comfortably and independently every day.

Supporting people to live safely, independently and with choice!

My role as an Occupational Therapist is to work closely with participants to help them identify the supports, assistive technology and capacity-building strategies that best align with their goals.

Every assessment focuses on:
āœ” Functional capacity
āœ” Barriers impacting daily living
āœ” Evidence-based recommendations
āœ” Meaningful, participant-centred outcomes

If you or someone you support requires OT input—whether for home modifications, assistive technology, SIL/SDA evidence, or daily living skill development—feel free to reach out.

Empowering independence, one goal at a time. šŸ’š

Hi šŸ‘‹

I’m April.

With over 15 years of experience as an OT, I support people to live safely and independently at home through practical, personalised modifications. I work closely with clients, families, and builders to create functional spaces that promote mobility, safety, and comfort.

Based in Newcastle, I also service Lake Macquarie, Maitland, and Port Stephens. My focus is on making homes more accessible—whether through minor adjustments or complex structural changes—so that people can continue doing the things that matter most in their own environment.

I look forward to meeting and working with you!

OT in Action: Making Bathrooms Safer & More Accessible

For many people, the bathroom can be the most challenging room in the house — but it doesn’t have to be.

This mobile shower commode chair:
āœ”ļø Allows safe transfers over the toilet and into the shower
āœ”ļø Reduces falls and injury risk
āœ”ļø Promotes independence with personal care
āœ”ļø Can be customised for comfort and support

Occupational Therapists assess your needs, recommend the right equipment, and train you (and your support team) to use it confidently.

Because at the end of the day, OT is about helping you live safely, comfortably, and on your own terms. šŸ›āœØ
