Migraines and hormones are deeply connected, primarily driven by fluctuations in estrogen. Although it is often challenging to identify the exact patterns of these attacks, many cycle-related symptoms, perimenopause, and menopause tend to trigger them.

Acupuncture is most effective when administered between migraine attacks. It can also be used as a conjunctive therapy if your current migraine medications are no longer effective.

I am dedicated to supporting your health through the most natural methods possible, ensuring you feel balanced and empowered.

In my clinic, I frequently observe a close link between regular migraines and menstrual issues, such as PMS, painful periods, or ovulation pain. Dramatic hormonal shifts during your cycle can increase brain sensitivity and disrupt the balance of chemicals like serotonin. Similarly, during perimenopause, estrogen levels can spike and drop drastically, leading to erratic fluctuations.
Because of this connection, balancing the reproductive system is always a core focus of my migraine treatments.

The digestive process begins in the mouth, where chewing serves as the essential trigger for saliva production. Saliva contains natural enzymes that are critical for breaking down starches and fats. When this initial stage of mechanical and chemical breakdown is bypassed, it is common to experience indigestion and various other gut symptoms. This is particularly noticeable in individuals who suffer from dry mouth, as the lack of enzymatic activity can lead to long-term digestive issues.

Furthermore, while liquid diets are often perceived as a healthy option, they significantly reduce the time available for this crucial first step. High-fiber or high-protein liquids frequently reach the gut without being properly prepared by saliva. It is important to remember that chewing is not merely about making food small enough to swallow; it is a vital process for mixing food with saliva to ensure it is suitable for the gut environment.

I hope you find this information helpful for your wellness journey. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss how we can further support your digestive health.

As we move into the cooler months, you may have noticed your skin becoming drier or even scaly. This transition is a natural process, similar to how leaves dry and fall as energy moves inward during seasonal changes; however, if you already have dry skin, these conditions can often intensify.
To help maintain hydration and skin health, I recommend focusing on a few key nutritional adjustments:
- Hydration and Mineral Balance: Since the body is naturally salty, adding quality salt to your fluids can assist with absorption, much like the 0.9% saline solutions used for medical hydration. - Vitamin A for Membrane Health: Foods rich in Vitamin A, such as carrots, spinach, and pumpkin, are essential for mucus production and maintaining healthy membranes. Because Vitamin A is fat-soluble, these vegetables should be consumed with oil to ensure proper absorption. - Quality Fats and Omega-3s: Healthy oils act as a protective barrier and reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, throat, and gut. Additionally, Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish, are excellent for reducing overall inflammation of the mucosal membranes.
For a simple way to incorporate these tips, try preparing a piece of salmon with spinach, carrots, and pumpkin sautéed in olive oil.
Since all aging—whether of the skin, organs, or cells—mostly begins with dehydration, maintaining proper moisture is essential.

In a world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is completely normal to feel a sense of anxiety. When everything feels in flux, our brains often struggle to predict the future, which can trigger a persistent "fight-or-flight" response. Navigating these challenges requires shifting our focus from what we cannot control to the proactive steps we can take for our own well-being.

Acupuncture is an effective, drug-free method to help restore this internal balance. By triggering the parasympathetic nervous system—our "rest and digest" mode—acupuncture treatments help reduce cortisol levels and release endorphins. This process naturally alleviates stress and tension, often leading to improved sleep quality and mental clarity. Many of our clients report reaching a deep "zen" state of relaxation following their sessions.

If you are feeling the physical or mental effects of stress, I encourage you to book a session to help regulate your nervous system and regain a sense of calm.

Have you always experienced painful periods? While many women believe this is normal, period pain that disrupts daily life can be an early sign of endometriosis. Endometriosis is a common cause of infertility and can impact IVF success rates.

If you are in your 20s or 30s and planning for a family, it is recommended to address painful periods now. If your pain is progressively worsening, it is important to seek medical advice.

At Ripple Acupuncture, we regularly treat women for painful periods, regardless of whether they have a formal endometriosis diagnosis.
