š LETāS TALK ABOUT EARS (And why we need to step away from the cotton swabs) š
Weāve all seen the face of pure blissājust like the guy in the image. Heās sitting on the couch, eyes closed, experiencing what he thinks is peak hygiene. But Audiologists and ENT's everywhere are sweating just looking at this. š
Here is a public service announcement your ears desperately want you to read: Stop putting Q-tips inside your ear canals!
š Why the "Digging" Has to Stop:
The Trash Compactor Effect: Your ear canal is a one-way street, and it clears itself out naturally. When you stick a cotton swab in there, you arenāt cleaning it; youāre just pulling a "trash compactor" move and jamming the wax deeper in your ear canal.
Earwax is Actually the Good Guy: Itās not dirt! Itās a natural shield that traps dust, keeps bugs out, and has antibacterial properties. Strip it all away, and youāre inviting irritation and infection.
š§ The Golden Rule of Ear Safety:
As the old, wise medical saying goes: "Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear."
Go ahead. Try to put your elbow in your ear right now. We'll wait. š
Can't do it? Perfect. That is exactly how much stuff should be going inside your ear canal.
š§¼ How to actually clean them:
Keep the Q-tips for cleaning keyboard crevices, fixing your eyeliner, or detailing your car. For your ears, just use a damp washcloth over your index finger to wipe the outside of your ear after a shower. Let your body do the rest!
If you feel like you genuinely have a wax buildup blocking your hearing, skip the DIY excavation and book an appointment to have it removed professionally! Your ears will thank you!
Do you know someone (if it's yourself, you can just say one of my mates š¬) who you think of when your read this? Tag them!
