We recently became a member of The Childrens Alliance and already can see the complexities of interagency work that they are doing as they advocate for detention center reopening for our justice involved youth who need secure supervision. Shouts out the Meck. County Sheriff's Office dept for coming forward with a plan that they believe will benefit the community. Watching these two discuss the nuances of care, dollars, facility administrative load, and more reminds me of my Leadership Charlotte cohort year (LC45) and exploring opportunities with varying perspectives. You really do leave these types of spaces with more questions than answers sometimes.

Therapy is a deeply intimate space where trust must exist. The rapport building phase is instrumental to the implementation of interventions, transparent processing, being able to call your client out, identifying patterns and having the “hard conversations”, etc.

Contradictory to common thought, therapy isn’t about getting advice, it is however about getting perspective. Typically unbiased wrapped in “hoping for the best for you” ideology that as therapists we don’t get to choose. We get to observe and remind you of your goals, reflect on what you present, and process with you decisions you make and how the decisions other people make impact you.

Learned behaviors are so real. Young children only know what they have been taught. As they matriculate through life they learn more things through various experiences. How are you preparing the next generation? What tools are you giving them, what skills are you teaching them. Trust me whether it’s intentional or happenstance they are learning from you. So choose BETTER 4 U and watch how they choose BETTER for themselves also.

Comparison is the thief of joy. In so many areas we make comparisons good, bad, and indifferent. Our emotions are highly attached to our perceptions. Perspective is key and also lock. Being able to have positive influence and guidance through life allows us to be more informed as we make decisions.

I recently chopped it up with and he shared a powerful thought about growth and community that resonates with how I operate. He said if you are operating in your lane doing well, and connect with someone else operating well in their lane, if you all can form an alliance your impact increases because now you have a higher net worth through social capital and shared information.

Maybe your influence doesn’t come from social media. Maybe it’s from family, friends, work place situations or elsewhere. Being aware of what influences you is just as important as who/what you influence. Be aware. And if you haven’t tapped in with a therapist, let this be a sign.
