This week, we recognise and reflect on the importance of connection, respect and truth-telling as we acknowledge National Reconciliation Week in Australia 2026.

At THC, we are committed to building a more inclusive community where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories are respected, celebrated and heard. Reconciliation is not just a conversation for one week. It is an ongoing journey of listening, learning and taking meaningful action together.

As a community organisation, we value the strength that comes from diversity, shared understanding and genuine connection. This week is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on how we can continue walking together towards a more just and united future.

We encourage our community to take time this week to learn, attend local events, support First Nations voices and continue the conversation. ❤️🖤💛

There are many events across Sydney to get involved this week, including:
• Community events and exhibitions through the City of Sydney Reconciliation Week program
• Truth-listening discussions and film screenings hosted by UTS Reconciliation Week events
• Local gatherings and activities shared through the Reconciliation Australia NRW Events Calendar

As we approach the end of the financial year, we’re asking our community to help us continue creating opportunities, connection and independence for people with disability across Sydney’s Lower North Shore. 💙

For more than 40 years, The Housing Connection has supported adults with intellectual and other disabilities through our SIL and SDA homes, Community Participation, Home and Living programs and personalized support.

The reality is that critical funding gaps are already beginning to emerge through ongoing NDIS reforms. THC is currently supporting families navigating significant reductions in essential supports, with one participant facing a funding cut of more than $140,000. We need your help to bridge these gaps to ensure people continue receiving the support they need.

Your EOFY donation can help:
✨ Support community participation programs and recreational activities
✨ Create more opportunities for skill development and independence
✨ Provide critical assistance to participants who are at risk of homelessness or to those in crisis
✨ Help us continue delivering quality, person-centred support

Your donation helps us continue standing beside the people and families who rely on us most.

Make your tax-deductible donation before June 30 and help us make a lasting difference.

A creative woman in her 30s living in St Ives is looking for a warm, bubbly and empathetic support worker to spend Tuesdays with her from 9:30am–4:30pm in her home.

She loves music, art and cooking, and enjoys being around people who share her interests, bring positive energy and genuinely take the time to understand her world.

This role involves supporting someone with complex health needs, including assistance with prosthetic legs and community access. Full guidance and training will be provided by her family, who are incredibly supportive and involved.

We’re looking for someone compassionate, patient and person-centered who values building meaningful connections and helping people live life their way.

Interested in joining the THC team and making a real difference? Reach out to us at [email protected].

Fred has been working with Raphael since June last year, with a clear and meaningful goal, helping Raphael feel more comfortable and confident in the water. What once caused anxiety is now becoming a space of growth and enjoyment.

Together, Fred and Raphael developed a gradual plan with exercises and strategies, starting in a shallow pool, then progressing to deeper water and ocean pools. Step by step, Raphael has shown incredible determination and trust in the process.

Last week, to celebrate his 67th birthday, the team gifted Raphael a surf session. Fred took him to the wave pool, where he got the chance to catch some waves, a huge milestone and an unforgettable moment.

This is what progress looks like. Not just learning a new skill, but overcoming fear and opening up to new possibilities. 💛

Part 3 of Kelsey’s series 💜

At The Housing Connection, Kelsey shares what makes THC so special to her — feeling valued, respected and free to be herself without judgement.

Creating a space where people feel safe, heard and included is at the heart of everything we do. We’re so proud to be part of Kelsey’s journey and grateful she’s sharing her story with our community.

Part 2 of Kelsey’s series is here 🙌
This time, we’re spotlighting our Swans group and the incredible community spirit they bring every week. Thanks to Kelsey and Anne Louise for leading the group.❤️

We’re excited to share the first chapter of Kelsey’s series, where she opens up about her journey, experiences, and what independence means to her.

At The Housing Connection (THC), stories like Kelsey’s remind us why we do what we do. It’s about supporting people to live life on their own terms, build confidence, and feel connected to their community.

💬 This is just the beginning – stay tuned for Part 2!

We’re proud to share a special video created by Pujan, one of our talented Social Educators at The Housing Connection (THC).

At THC, our Social Educators go beyond support work. They create, inspire and empower – and this video is a beautiful reflection of that passion in action.
