August 3rd-9th is Homelessness Week / Homelessness Awareness Week πŸ’› Homelessness doesn’t always look like someone living on the streets; it can look like someone sleeping in their car, moving frequently between temporary accommodation and shelters, couch surfing or even lacking a safe place to live.

Many factors can cause homelessness, including but not limited to domestic/family violence, financial difficulties, complex mental and physical health reasons. Homelessness can impact someone’s physical and mental health ,ability to find employment, seek medical treatment, food stability and social life.

In you or someone you know needs support in the Frankston and surrounding areas, there are organisations that are able to provide support including The Salvation Army - Homelessness Services, Community Support Frankston (CSF) and Ask Izzy. Outside of business hours, you can also call the Statewide Homelessness Helpline on 1800 825 955. 🏑🫢

The coming week starting Monday 3rd of August, 2026 is a chance to celebrate community and connections. On the community calendar are events raising awareness for both loneliness and homelessness. In some ways these two are intertwined as people experience disconnection and exclusion.

Like many organisations, Frankston South Community and Recreation Centre hosts Chatty Cafes. This week this Community Centre is hosting daily Chatty Cafes in honour of Loneliness Awareness Week - see their post below for further details.

The work of Susan David, a Professor of Psychology at Harvard is really useful in understanding ourselves, our emotions and making change. Here she talks about how if we align small changes to our values, changes we make have the best chance of succeeding.

Taking small, values-aligned actions is a really powerful way to build the life you want.

For example, if you choose to reach out and be generous to your partner, what is the impact of that action? This micro-moment of generosity predicts an upward spiral where you will be more likely to be generous in another moment. On the other hand, when you make choices that are incongruent with your values, it can lead to a downward spiralβ€”taking you away from the life you want to lead.

Start small.

The OT Toolbox are giving us the green light on the green flags for relationships. What do you think? How do these sit with you? Are there other ways you know how to trust others. I like the idea of having a trust meter that we make for ourselves that assusts us to make those crucial personal choices in relationships.

Sometimes when we are faced with a crises in ourselves or in others our personal feelings step in. We don't what we need or what we can offer. This beautiful visual opens up so many possibilities in how we can give and receive support. Kudos to SimpLee Serene for creating this beautiful and helpful resource.
