The Common Good Au

The Common Good Au Proudly supporting The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital. Our research areas are health issues that touch nearly everyone in some way.

The Common Good, an initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, exists to help people live healthier, for longer. Through the power of the collective, we support and facilitate the work of incredible researchers who are dedicated to making breakthroughs in the areas of heart disease, lung disease, mental health and dementia. Whether it be a friend, a family member, or a colleague, we all

know someone who is impacted by at least one of these conditions. In turn, that means we all know someone who can benefit from funding research in these areas. By funding research, we can provide hope to those suffering today, and for future generations to come. The impacts of our research ripple right across the nation and the world. We're on a mission to sustain the work of our brilliant researchers so that they can continue to make life-saving and life-changing medical breakthroughs. And we want you to join us. Research is a long game, so we need to support and fund as many hours as possible to ensure no stone is left unturned in any of our research areas. Every hour of research gets us one step closer to a medical breakthrough. We are also incredibly proud to support hospital innovation and patient care initiatives at both The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.

Rhys Hoole is The Prince Charles Hospital's 500th heart transplant recipient and survived the wait to transplant thanks to Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

ECMO is a lifeline for patients whose heart or lungs have failed, taking on the job of pumping blood and oxygen around the body. There are still risks associated with ECMO, and it can lead to serious complications.

Researchers at The Prince Charles Hospital are working to reduce the risks associated with ECMO. But they need your support now to take their research forward.

Support the research that could save the lives of more people like Rhys with a donation before 30 June.

Introducing Jene's MTG as the latest to join 40 Clubs | 40 Years, doing good in their local community🃏

A huge thank you to Jene for coming on board with a simple but powerful idea in support of The Common Good.

Together with their MTG community, they’ve been donating $1 from every booster pack sold — and in just a matter of days, hundreds of packs have helped raise over $1000 in meaningful funds to support patients and families in our local hospitals.💜

What’s even more incredible is that Jene has now teamed up with John from Irresistible Force to take their community fundraising to the next level.

The Common Good have proudly been named as the beneficiary charity for one of Australia’s largest MTG events, Commandergeddon 10, happening tomorrow! ⚔️

It’s awesome to see such an enthusiastic trading card gaming community come together to create real impact beyond the table, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of it.

We’re looking forward to meeting everyone at the event tomorrow.🎴

💜40 Stories for 40 Years - Story No. 13💜
Sheila & Bernard Joel: Life-saving Medical Equipment Foundation

This Queensland Philanthropy Week, we’re sharing the story of an incredible woman whose generosity has made a huge impact for patients in Queensland and will continue to do so for generations to come.

At The Prince Charles Hospital, the name Sheila Joel brings a deep sense of gratitude. To those who met her, Sheila was a shining light. And to many who haven’t met her, she may well be a lifesaver.

Sheila Joel made her first gift to The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation in 2015, in memory of her husband Bernard.

This was the beginning of her extreme generosity through the Sheila & Bernard Joel Life-saving Medical Equipment Foundation, which has now led to the purchase of more than 75 pieces of life-saving equipment for the researchers and hospitals we support.

“She would turn up at the research labs, and she would brighten up the room because of her genuine interest,” said Michael Hornby, former CEO of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, who knew Sheila well during his time leading the Foundation.

“While Sheila left such a wonderful and generous legacy… she also got to see her generosity in action for some six years before she passed. So, she would have been confident knowing the greater good that would occur because of the legacy she would eventually leave.”

💜Meet Nadine👋

As we celebrate Queensland Philanthropy Week, we're delighted to introduce the newest member of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation's Philanthropy Team.

Nadine recently joined the Foundation as Relationships Manager | Philanthropy, working alongside Lucy Moore and Matthew Lang to build meaningful relationships with donors, supporters and healthcare teams, to help create lasting impact through philanthropy.

Nadine began her career as a registered nurse, developing a deep understanding of patient care and the realities faced by clinicians on the front line.

She has since built extensive experience in healthcare leadership, stakeholder engagement, and business development, most recently at St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside and Brisbane, where she served as Executive Manager, Business Development and Marketing.

This experience will be invaluable as she works with our philanthropic supporters and hospital teams to help shape new programs for the Foundation.

"What drew me to the Foundation is the opportunity to help create real impact," Nadine shares. "I've seen first-hand the incredible ideas and innovations being driven by clinicians and researchers, and philanthropy has the power to help bring those ideas to life."

When asked what resonates most about the Foundation, Nadine highlights purpose and impact. "Being part of something that connects generosity with better patient outcomes is incredibly motivating. It's about helping turn possibility into reality."

Outside of work, Nadine's world revolves around her family. She loves travelling and enjoys exploring her passion for fashion and design.

Welcome to the team, Nadine! We are delighted to have you.

Please join us in welcoming her in the comments below.👇

❤️Queensland Philanthropy Week❤️

This week is Queensland Gives Queensland Philanthropy Week – a time to celebrate those whose philanthropic contributions help make a lasting difference across our state.

The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation is proud to be part of this sector dedicated to improving lives in Queensland and beyond.

As the Foundation marks its 40-year milestone, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the many generous and dedicated individuals, families, partner organisations and supporters who have helped make four decades of life-changing outcomes possible.

“We’re stronger together, and I give my deepest thanks to everyone who has contributed in their own ways to support the tangible and impactful health and research outcomes that the Foundation is proud to champion,” said Steve Francia, CEO of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.

This week, we are not just celebrating the kindness and community spirit that has helped drive our impact since 1986; we’re also celebrating the remarkable contributions of other philanthropic organisations and generous individuals across the state.

Best of luck to all nominees at the 2026 Queensland Philanthropy Awards this Friday.🙌

As the Foundation supporting one of the country’s leading cardiothoracic hospitals, The Prince Charles Hospital, heart-related research has been a major focus since our inception in 1986💜

Since 2015, we have supported close to 200 grants focused on heart research, with a combined value of more than $10 million.🫀🔬

Currently, around 40 per cent of active grants supported by the Foundation are for heart-related projects.

Tim, who is the Nurse Educator in the Emergency Department at Caboolture Hospital, is one of many people who have benefited from past heart research and care at The Prince Charles Hospital.

The young father shared his story with Moreton Daily to highlight the passion and dedication of health professionals, clinicians and researchers in shaping care and quality of life, not just today but well into the future.
