Out of the Shadows ☀️

Join us on 10th September for World Su***de Prevention Day as we come together for Out of the Shadows with our a 1km walk from Lifeline Connect Clare to The Valleys Lifestyle Centre

This walk is about remembering those we have lost to su***de, supporting those who are struggling, and bringing our community together to raise awareness and funds for crisis support and su***de prevention services.

🎭✨Lifeline Connect recently attended Skinny! A powerful and thought provoking “celebration of every shape, every size and every person who’s ever looked in the mirror and wondered: is this slimming?” performed by Michelle Pearson in Burra.

Through her lived experience of societies focus on body image, the need to fit a certain size and look to conform, Michelle Pearson highlights in her show both the physical and psychological impacts that striving to reach perfectionism with the perfect body can have. She “delves into the cruel and extraordinary things we do to ‘fix’ our bodies” to reach a goal that does not necessarily lead to happiness. 🌱 ❤️

🌟We would like to say a huge thank you to Goyder Council’s Arts and Cultural Facilitator, Fleur Kilpatrick for inviting our team to be present and hold a stall at the event!

Through this collaboration we were available before and after the show to chat to anyone who had been affected either directly or indirectly by body image issues and/or eating disorders, as well as available to share information about local services including Lifeline Connect, Clare’s free counselling and connect support which extends from as far north as Jamestown to Tarlee, and from the Yorke Peninsula to Bundey.

Never hesitate to give us a call as we are there for anyone needing an extra hand. Your support through sharing this information, accessing our service, volunteering, donations, and shopping at our Op Shops and Tip Shops is what keeps us running and able to continue providing our service across Regional South Australia and Far West NSW. 🌟Youth Mental Health First Aid Training with Community Connectors in Peterborough! 🌟

Last month, our Regional Coordinator had the pleasure of delivering Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training at the Peterborough Youth Centre to six dedicated volunteers from the Peterborough Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) as part of the Community Connectors Program.

Over the course of two days all six participating volunteers completed and became accredited in Youth Mental Health First Aid equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to recognise when a young person may be experiencing a mental health challenge, provide initial support, and connect them with appropriate professional help. Participants will be accredited now in YMHFA for the next 3 years.

❓Who Are Community Connectors ❓
Community Connectors are volunteers participating in the new local Community Connectors Program aimed at training and supporting local community members to become trusted, skilled points of contact for the Peterborough community and in particular, youth.

The program focuses on developing practical support skills, building confidence in having difficult conversations, and strengthening referral pathways into local services.

🌱 What is Youth Mental Health First Aid? 🌱

YMHFA is an accredited mental health training course which equips adults who teach, care for, or support young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.

We at Lifeline Regional SA and Far West NSW are saddened to inform you of the passing of our valued and loved former Board member and Company Secretary, Robin Edgecumbe.

Starting back in February 2015 Robin made a 10-year commitment to Lifeline and throughout that time he has always brought with him a genuine sense of warmth, generosity and compassion for supporting our local communities and people.

Robin spent most of his working life in Broken Hill where he worked primarily in the mining industry. Ever passionate about our regional communities he worked with Lifeline Australia to play a key role in merging Lifeline Broken Hill and Lifeline Country to Coast to create what is now known Lifeline Regional SA and Far West NSW.

Lifeline Regional SA and Far West NSW now operates a fleet of Lifeline OpShops, a Tip Shop and Warehouse, and Connect Centres at both Broken Hill and Clare in no small part thanks to Robin’s knowledge, skills and passion.

After retiring and moving to Clare, Robin was well known by many to drop in for a friendly chat and took a real interest in the work being done in Lifeline Connect Clare. His good nature and community spirit is something we will all remember him for. He will be deeply missed and our thoughts are now with all of his family and friends ❤️

As part of their placement at the Clare Community Centre, Connie & Louise’s project aims to reduce social isolation and help people of all ages discover the many social groups, activities, and services available throughout our community. As part of this project, they are creating a weekly "What's On in Clare" noticeboard at the Clare Community Centre and contributing information to the Lions Club directory.

This initiative is aimed at helping make it easier for residents, newcomers, and those who may not have access to social media or local networks to stay informed and connected.

Together, we can help create a more connected, inclusive, and welcoming Clare community. 🌟
