Tuesday was a busy and valuable day at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital as we held our Maternity Education Symposium.

The symposium focused on supporting pregnancy through evidence, compassion and care, bringing together clinicians, midwives, medical students and healthcare partners for a day of learning and discussion.

The program covered a wide range of maternity care topics, including heart failure in pregnancy, medications in pregnancy and breastfeeding, fetal movement awareness, NIPT developments, pPROM and chorioamnionitis, steroids in pregnancy, safer birth, and the birth experience team.

Thank you to our presenters, organisers and everyone who attended. Events like this are an important part of our ongoing education program and our commitment to supporting safe, thoughtful maternity care.

It’s been a very busy autumn at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, and we wanted to take a moment to reflect on one of the highlights: our inaugural Gastrosciences Education Symposium.

The event brought together clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals for a day of education, specialist insight and multidisciplinary learning across gastrosciences care.

Thank you to everyone who presented, attended, sponsored and supported the event, including the many Monash Health colleagues who joined us.

The symposium follows our recent Neurosciences Education Symposium and forms part of a significant program of clinical education events being delivered across JMPH.

Next in the series is our Maternity Education Symposium on 9 June.

Happy International Nurses Day to our wonderful Jessie McPherson Private Hospital nurses.

This year’s theme is Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

Today we celebrate the many ways nurses make a difference: caring for patients, supporting families, leading teams, teaching colleagues, mentoring others and beginning their own journey in this remarkable profession.

To our nurses across Jessie McPherson: thank you for your skill, compassion, leadership and care. We are grateful for everything you do for our patients, families and each other.

This Mother’s Day, we acknowledge mothers at every stage of life.

At JMPH, we are privileged to care for mothers welcoming new babies, mothers recovering from illness or surgery, mothers supporting loved ones, and mothers in our workforce who are caring for others today.

We know that when a baby is born, a mother is born too. It is a moment of strength, change, vulnerability and love, and we are honoured to be part of that journey.

To the families who trust us with the care of their mothers, thank you.

To the mothers working today across our hospital, thank you for the care, compassion and skill you bring to others, often while your own families are marking the day too.

It’s Heart Week, a reminder to pause, check in and start a conversation about heart health.

Knowing your risk factors and speaking with your GP can help you understand what steps may be right for you.

At JMPH, cardiac care is delivered through Monash Heart Private, located at the Victorian Heart Hospital in Clayton. This provides a private cardiac care pathway within a dedicated heart hospital setting.

The Victorian Heart Hospital also includes a dedicated cardiac emergency department for adult heart patients.

As always, if symptoms are urgent or concerning, seek emergency care and in an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

This Heart Week, we also want to thank our cardiac care teams. To the nurses, doctors and clinical teams who care for people and families at some of their most vulnerable moments, thank you for the skill, compassion and calm you bring to cardiac care every day ❤

This year’s global theme, One Million More Midwives, recognises a critical reality: the world needs more midwives, and greater investment in the profession.

It’s something that reinforces what we see every day at Jessie. On our postnatal ward, where families are adjusting to life with a newborn, and in antenatal care, where women may need closer monitoring and support during pregnancy.

That level of care doesn’t happen by accident.
It comes from midwives who bring both clinical skill and genuine presence to their work, every shift.

To our midwifery team at Jessie, and to midwives everywhere - thank you for the care you provide to women and families.

Today we remember those who served, and those who cared for them.

Doctors, nurses and medics have long played a vital role in times of conflict, showing courage, compassion and resilience in the face of the unimaginable.

We honour their service, and the legacy they leave behind.

Great energy at our Neurosciences Education Symposium held at Monash Medical Centre Clayton.

A full lecture theatre brought together clinical and operational teams from Jessie McPherson Private Hospital and Monash Health, alongside nursing and medical colleagues, for a day focused on Surgery, Science & Innovation.

The program showcased the depth of expertise across our Neurosciences network, with a strong multidisciplinary focus spanning clinical care, patient experience and allied health.

We were also pleased to host sponsor partners and an interactive exhibition space, including live robotic demonstrations.

Thank you to all presenters, our organising team, and our sponsors and exhibition team for helping deliver such a valuable and well-run event.

At Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, our story began with women.

Founded in 1931 as part of the pioneering Queen Victoria Hospital, our origins are deeply connected to a movement that created opportunities for women in medicine, at a time when those opportunities were rare.

More than 90 years later, that spirit lives on.

Healthcare is an industry held up by women. Every day across our wards, theatres and teams, women support women; as clinicians, leaders, mentors, colleagues and friends.

From the bedside to the boardroom, from midwives to surgeons, nurses to administrators, the strength of our hospital comes from the women who care, lead and lift each other up.

This International Women’s Day, and in the spirit of this year’s theme , we celebrate the power of women supporting women and the balance that creates stronger teams, stronger care and stronger communities.
