🤔 Monday Maitri Muse 🌿
Me and my lovely friend Sarah after our 10km split event on the weekend with Run Club. We had a ball and it had me reflecting on how my movement has changed throughout the different seasons of life.
I’ve been involved in many different types of movement over the years. Never a top-level athlete, but always willing to go along for the ride (mostly the chats 😉).
As a teen — team sports, athletics carnivals, and my first introduction to yoga at 19.
In my 20s — gym, boxing, Pilates, mini triathlons, mountain runs and scuba diving.
In my 30s — netball, umpiring, HIIT, yoga and, towards the end, more Pilates.
And now, coming up to my 40s — yoga, Pilates and (some) running .
But there’s one type of movement that has been consistent through all of those years: **mindful movement, in one form or another.**
I love the more competitive activities. I enjoy pushing myself, setting a goal and rising to a challenge. But I’ve also always needed something to fall back on — when I’m injured, when I’m tired, when I’m pregnant, when my body needs a stretch, or when I simply need to slow things down.
And that’s not to say yoga and Pilates aren’t hard. They absolutely can be. But they can also meet you where you’re at, without expecting you to be anything else.
Maybe that’s why I keep coming back to them.
Not necessarily as a replacement for the other ways I love to move, but as something that supports me through all of them — and through all the different seasons of life.
If you’re in a season where you’re looking for a way to move that can meet you where you are — whether that’s alongside everything else you do, or as your main form of movement — you’re always welcome to come and move with us at Maitri 🩷
