There’s nothing ordinary about Amelia’s determination. 💙

For many people, being confined to a chair could feel limiting. But Amelia continues to show us that progress isn't defined by where you start—it's defined by the courage to keep showing up.

Every session is filled with hard work, resilience and plenty of personality. Watching her take on new challenges and celebrate every win is a reminder that growth looks different for everyone, and every step forward deserves to be celebrated.

We're so proud to be part of Amelia's journey. 💪✨

Living with cervical dystonia can be frustrating, painful, and exhausting — especially when it affects your posture, neck movement, comfort, and confidence in daily life.

At Coffs Neuro Physio, we work with people experiencing cervical dystonia through individualised physiotherapy programs designed to support better movement, reduce secondary complications, and improve function.

Physiotherapy can play an important role alongside medical management, including working collaboratively with neurologists when treatments such as Botox are part of the care plan.

Our latest article explores how physiotherapy can support people with cervical dystonia and why a tailored approach is so important.

🌟 Celebrating Sara’s progress 🌟

Sara suffered a stroke in 2001, which affected her left side and left her with significant spasticity in her left leg. For many years, she has required a very heavy-duty Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) and substantial shoe build-up to help prevent her knee from bending backwards when walking.

Although Sara has regularly received Botox to several muscles in her leg, we had long hoped to combine this with serial casting to improve the range of motion in her ankle.

In 2025, the entire Coffs Neuro Physio team completed serial casting training and we invested in the equipment needed to provide this treatment in our clinic. In April this year, Sara finally had the opportunity to trial serial casting — and the results were incredible.

✅ 18 degrees improvement in ankle range of motion
✅ A much lighter and less bulky AFO
✅ Minimal shoe build-up required
✅ Greater comfort and more normal footwear options

Sara said she is “pumped about being closer to the ground and being able to wear more normal shoes again.” In fact, she now has the job of sewing up the hems on all the extra-long trousers she had previously bought to accommodate her old footwear setup!

This is what Coffs Neuro Physio is all about — investing in new skills and services to meet the needs of our clients, achieve real outcomes, and help change lives.

Check out Sara’s old and new AFO photos — out with the old, in with the new!! 💙

Expressions of Interest are now open for our next Upper Limb Intensive Program at Coffs Neuro Physio. 💪

Our Upper Limb Intensive focuses on improving:

✔️ Strength
✔️ Dexterity

✔️ Confidence using the upper limb in everyday tasks

Led by our experienced neurological physiotherapy team, the program uses evidence-based rehabilitation principles, including high repetition, task-specific practice, and approaches such as Constraint Induced Movement Therapy where appropriate.

Intensive therapy can be a powerful way to increase your rehabilitation dosage and focus on meaningful goals in a structured, supportive environment.

Places will be limited, so we are now taking expressions of interest.

Please join us in welcoming Riana to the Coffs Neuro Physio team!

Riana is passionate about improving access to quality healthcare in regional Australia and helping people feel informed, confident, and empowered as they navigate the health system.

Before becoming a physiotherapist, Riana worked across fitness, yoga, aqua aerobics, remedial massage and Clinical Pilates — giving her a strong foundation in movement, rehabilitation, and person-centred care.

She brings valuable experience from her work in rehabilitation, particularly with complex neurological presentations, and loves supporting people with meaningful goals — from early steps in rehab through to returning home with greater confidence and independence.

Riana has also completed postgraduate study in clinical rehabilitation, with a focus on stroke, foot drop, degenerative neurological conditions, exercise rehabilitation and neuroplasticity.

Outside of work, you’ll find Riana enjoying the peace and quiet by the river, or volunteering at car clubs along the coast while her teenage son races cars.

Welcome Riana! Great to welcome you to the team.

💙 21 June is World MND Day 💙

Today we join people around the world in raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease — a progressive neurological condition that can affect movement, speech, swallowing and breathing.

At Coffs Neuro Physio, we understand the importance of multidisciplinary support for people living with MND. Physiotherapy and speech pathology can play an important role in maintaining function, supporting communication and swallowing, managing changes over time, and helping people stay as safe and comfortable as possible.

Fun fact: The blue cornflower is the international symbol of hope for MND. It is hardy yet delicate — just like the human spirit.

Today, we acknowledge those living with MND, their families, carers and support teams. 💙
