🌼 Daffodil Day 🌼

Today, the daffodil represents hope for everyone affected by cancer and for a future shaped by better research, treatment and outcomes.

At The Athlete’s Guild, we see that the effects of cancer can extend well beyond the diagnosis itself. Treatment can leave changes in pain, fatigue, mobility, sensation, scar tissue, lymphatic function and overall physical wellbeing, sometimes continuing long after treatment has finished.

Supporting someone affected by cancer requires more than simply modifying a standard treatment. It requires an understanding of their cancer history, treatment, side effects, precautions and where they are in their recovery.

Our role is not to treat cancer. It is to provide appropriately adapted care that supports comfort, movement, recovery and quality of life alongside the person’s broader healthcare team.

This Daffodil Day, we recognise those living with cancer, those navigating life after treatment, their families and everyone working to improve what comes next. 💛

His son was his F.A.S.T. hero.

He recognised the signs of stroke, called an ambulance straight away and helped save his father’s life.

National Stroke Week 2026 recognises the family members, friends and bystanders who spotted the signs of stroke and acted without delay.

Men are almost 1.5 times more likely than women to experience stroke. Around 21,000 Australian men have a stroke each year, or about 57 every day. Yet 2 in 5 cannot recognise any common F.A.S.T. sign, and 1 in 3 do not know that stroke is a medical emergency.

F.A.S.T.: Face drooping. Arm weakness. Speech difficulty. Time to call 000.

Surviving a stroke is often only the beginning. Recovery can involve weakness, spasticity, reduced mobility, pain, swelling, and changes in continence and sexual function.

As part of a coordinated rehabilitation plan, Trent Renshaw provides support for:

• muscle tightness, guarding or discomfort
• hip, leg or other muscle and joint pain
• reduced movement or mobility
• swelling or oedema from reduced limb movement
• urinary frequency, urgency or incomplete emptying
• difficulty with erections or reaching or**sm

You do not have to navigate recovery alone.

Stroke Foundation’s StrokeLine offers friendly, understanding support to survivors, families, carers and friends. Its nursing and allied health professionals understand aphasia and give each person the time they need to communicate.

Chronic pain affects more than the body. For many men, it can also affect work, income, independence and identity.

Around 1 in 5 Australians live with chronic pain, and low back pain is the most common chronic pain condition affecting men.

Back pain is also the second-leading individual cause of disease burden among Australian men, who are also disproportionately affected by the wider consequences of chronic pain, including work-related disability, workforce exit, drug-related harm and the compounding effects of pain, lost function and su***de risk.

Lower back pain is not always confined to the spine. The pelvic girdle, including the sacroiliac joint complex, may also contribute to persistent low back pain.

For some men, the wider picture may also include pelvic floor tension, pelvic pain, urinary symptoms, changes in sexual function or prolonged pain following surgery for an enlarged prostate or treatment for prostate cancer.

Remedial massage is not a cure for chronic pain, but it can form part of a broader management plan by addressing protective muscle guarding, tender or sensitive soft tissue areas, stiffness, restricted movement and pain-related tension.

Male pelvic health therapy can extend that support to the pelvic girdle and surrounding tissues when symptoms involve the pelvis, perineum or recovery after prostate treatment.

Do not wait until pain costs you function, work or quality of life. Book with Trent Renshaw for care that considers the whole picture. Call Hoys Allied Health & Wellness on 02 6652 7355 or book online today.

Moree midwinter morning madness.

A frosty 5 km at Moree parkrun, finishing 8th in 20:51 with the temperature sitting at -1.6°C and a “feels like” of -3.9°C... which it certainly did!

A big shout-out to the Moree parkrun volunteers for bringing the warmth while the weather brought everything else.

A soak, a stretch and a little less stress.

Coach Trent Renshaw taking time to reset this Stress Down Day in Moree, where the hot artesian waters offer the perfect excuse to slow down, loosen up and let some of the pressure drift away.

Recovery is not only about tired muscles. It is also a chance to pause, breathe and reconnect with the body, giving both mind and body space to unwind.

Stress is a natural part of life, but regular moments of movement, rest, connection and recovery can help stop it from becoming overwhelming.

Today, find your own way to soak, stretch and stress down.

6 years in the game.

Today marks six years of The Athlete’s Guild.

Six years of supporting men’s health, recovery and sporting performance on the Mid North Coast.

From helping you move better, manage pain, recover from training, prepare for events, and get back to doing what you love, it has been a privilege to be part of your health and performance journey.

This year brought some changes to the routine, and I’m grateful for everyone who has continued to support the clinic, book in, refer friends and family, and trust me with their care.

Whether you’re chasing sporting goals, managing a long-term condition, or simply trying to feel and function better, thank you for letting The Athlete’s Guild be part of that process.
