Breastfeeding is beautiful. It is also really hard on a woman's neck, shoulders, and upper back 😔

Most feeding positions involve looking down, rounding the shoulders forward, and staying in the same posture for extended periods - sometimes for hours a day. Over time this can lead to:
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Upper back and shoulder tension
- Headaches
- Wrist and forearm pain from supporting baby's weight
- Lower back discomfort from sitting in awkward positions for long periods

A few tips to help your body while feeding:
- Bring baby up to breast level using a feeding pillow rather than hunching down to baby
- Sit with your back supported and feet flat on the floor or on a footstool
- Try to keep your shoulders relaxed and away from your ears
-Get up and move gently between feeds whenever you caneeds
Get up and move gently between feeds whenever you can

And if your neck and upper back are already sore - Dr. Kjersti understands the unique demands of the breastfeeding body and provides gentle, specific care to help you feel more comfortable through this season 💙

You are doing an incredible job. Your body deserves support too. Book in via the link in our bio or call us on (02) 6652 7207 📞

If someone you love has just had a baby, here's something worth knowing - the most meaningful thing you can do is help her take care of herself 💙

New mothers are incredible. They are also exhausted, often in pain, running on empty, and putting everyone else first.

Here are some of the most helpful things you can do for a new mum:
- Bring food that’s nourishing and easy to eat with one hand
- Book her a chiropractic appointment - her pelvis, back, and neck will thank you
- Ask how she is feeling and if there is anything she is needing - not just how the baby is
- Do a load of washing or tidy the kitchen without being asked
- Remind her she is doing an amazing job

Postpartum chiropractic care with Dr. Kjersti is gentle, nurturing, and specifically tailored to where a new mother is in her recovery. It is one of the most practical and loving gifts you can give 🌿

Gentle stretches can help ease some of the most common postpartum discomforts - tight shoulders, an achy lower back, and more 🌿

Always check with your healthcare provider before starting any postpartum movement, and listen to your body throughout!

Gentle Stretches:
1. Chest openerSit or stand tall. Clasp your hands behind your back, gently squeeze your shoulder blades together, and lift your chest. Hold for 10-15 seconds. This helps counteract the rounded shoulders that come from feeding and carrying.

2. Seated cat-cowSit upright in a chair, hands on knees. Breathe in and arch your lower back gently (cow), then breathe out and round your spine (cat). Repeat 5-8 times, following your breath. Great for a stiff lower back.

3. Chin tucksGently draw your chin back (think: making a double chin). Hold for 3-5 seconds, repeat 10 times. Helps relieve neck tension from looking down at baby.

4. Hip flexor stretchStep one foot forward into a gentle lunge, keeping your back knee down if needed. Feel the stretch through the front of your back hip. Hold 20-30 seconds each side.

5. Shoulder rollsSimple, but effective. Roll your shoulders back slowly 10 times. Do this regularly throughout the day.

These are a starting point - for a personalised postpartum care plan, come and see Dr. Kjersti. She will assess where your body needs support and guide you through what is right for you specifically 💙

Growing and birthing a baby is one of the most extraordinary things a human body can do. But once baby arrives, the focus shifts almost entirely to the little one - and mum's body often gets pushed to the back.

The fourth trimester (after birth) - is real! Your body has just done something incredible, and it needs care, support, and time to recover. At Life Chiro and Wellness, Dr. Kjersti has a special interest in postnatal care and loves supporting women and newborns through this season.

After birth - whether vaginal or caesarean - the body goes through significant changes:
- The pelvis, sacrum, and surrounding ligaments need time and support to realign
- Hormonal changes (particularly relaxin) continue to affect joint stability for months
- The physical demands of newborn care - feeding, lifting, carrying, bending - begin immediately, often before the body has had a chance to recover
- Sleep deprivation affects muscle tension, posture, and the nervous system

Gentle chiropractic care in the postpartum period can help support your body's recovery, address pain and tension, and help you feel more like yourself again - so you can show up for your baby feeling strong and supported 🌿

You deserve care too. Book in via the link in our bio or call us on (02) 6652 7207 📞

Most people come to see a chiropractor when something hurts. And that's completely okay, but here's something we want you to know: chiropractic care works even better when you don't wait until you're in pain.

Think of it like looking after your teeth. You don't wait until you have a toothache to see a dentist - regular check-ups keep small problems from becoming big ones. Your spine works the same way.

Regular chiropractic care can help you:
~ Maintain better posture and spinal alignment before it causes pain
~ Catch and address small misalignments before they become chronic issues
~ Support your nervous system so your body functions at its best day to day
~ Recover faster from the physical demands of everyday life - desk work, lifting, parenting, sport
~ Reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups over time

Patients who come in for regular maintenance care often find they need fewer acute visits, recover more quickly when life does throw something at them, and simply feel better in their bodies on a daily basis 🌿

Dr. Kjersti works with each patient to find a care plan that suits their body, lifestyle, and goals - whether that's weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.

Did you know that stress doesn't just affect your mind - it lives in your body too.

When you're stressed, your nervous system triggers a physical response. Muscles tighten, breathing becomes shallow, and your body braces itself as if preparing for danger. In the short term, this is normal. But when stress becomes chronic, thatmuscle tension doesn't fully release - and over time it can lead to real physical pain.

This is exactly why Dr. Kjersti takes a whole-person approach. Addressing only the physical symptom without considering the stress and nervous system driving it means the tension is likely to keep coming back. Through chiropractic care, Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET), and Applied Kinesiology (AK), she works to support both the physical and emotional sides of what your body is carrying. 💙

If stress is showing up in your body, you don't have to just push through. We would love to help. Book in via the link in our bio or call us on (02) 6652 7207 📞

Did you know that what you eat, how you sleep, and how much water you drink can directly affect how your muscles and joints feel? 💧🥦😴

Musculoskeletal health - the health of your muscles, joints, and spine - isn't just about how you move. It is deeply connected to how you fuel and rest your body every single day.

Nutrition 🥗Inflammation is one of the biggest drivers of muscle and joint pain. A diet rich in whole foods, healthy fats, and anti-inflammatory nutrients helps keep inflammation at bay and gives your body the building blocks it needs to repair and recover. On the flip side, a diet high in processed foods and sugar can contribute to chronic inflammation and make existing pain worse.

Hydration 💧Your spinal discs are largely made up of water - and they rely on good hydration to maintain their height, flexibility, and shock-absorbing capacity. Even mild dehydration can contribute to stiffness, reduced joint lubrication, and increased muscle cramping. Aim for at least 2 litres of water a day and more if you are active or in warm weather.

Sleep 😴This is when your body does its most important repair work. Poor or insufficient sleep increases inflammation, slows tissue recovery, and heightens sensitivity to pain. It can also affect posture - a tired body tends to slump, adding extra strain to the spine and surrounding muscles.

At Life Chiro and Wellness, Dr. Kjersti takes a holistic approach that considers all of these factors together. Chiropractic care works best when the whole body is supported - and small daily habits in nutrition, hydration, and sleep can make a significant difference to how you feel between appointments. 🌿
