Collarenebri Community Hub The Collarenebri Medical Centre is located in the Community Hub & provides access to holistic care. Carlos W.

Under RARMS Reconciliation Action Plan we have committed to naming all our medical centres in the language of the local Aboriginal community. This is respectfully intended to acknowledge the original custodians of the lands on which we work and to support the revitalisation of Aboriginal place names and language in our communities. The original Aboriginal place names of many locations in NSW were meticulously recorded following consultations with local Aboriginal Elders up until around the year 1931 by The Canon J. Stretch in a 508 page manuscript titled โ€œToponomy: Place Names of New South Wales, Their Origin, Meaning and Locality.โ€ The place names are now widely available to view on Google Earth and at Hunter Living Histories (https://hunterlivinghistories.com/2019/05/16/stretch/) at the University of Newcastle. Following consultations with the local Aboriginal Elders we have adopted the name โ€œMAARUBA GALARIINBARAAY-GUโ€ for our health centre which translate as โ€œHealing Place Collarenebriโ€ in the local Gamilaraay language. We would like to thank the Collarenebri Local Aboriginal Land Corporation for their support of our health centre. We recognise the traditional sovereignty of the Gamilaraay people and support the revitalisation of local languages.

What a big week for our Mental Health and Wellbeing team on the Far South Coast!

Last week, we teamed up with the NRL to deliver the State of Mind program to primary and high schools across the Batemans Bay region, helping young people build awareness and confidence around mental health and wellbeing.

The team also headed to Narooma on Tuesday afternoon to run a league session and BBQ with the Narooma Devils.

On Saturday, THCFA were proud to attend the We Breathe 2026 Koori Knockout in Batemans Bay โ€” a fantastic day celebrating community, culture and connection.
Congratulations to the winners, Red Dust in the menโ€™s competition and The Marida Sisters in the womenโ€™s competition, on taking out the knockout!

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed our team and helped make such a positive week possible.

Last week was a huge one for our Mental Health & Wellbeing team!

Our team were out and about across the community, supporting events for R U OK? Day and World Su***de Prevention Day โ€” helping to spark important conversations, raise awareness and remind everyone that checking in can make a real difference.

From meaningful conversations to connecting with our community, it was fantastic to see so many people getting involved and showing their support.

Here are a few highlights from the week!

This morning, our staff joined Su***de Prevention Australia at Parliament House to mark World Su***de Prevention Day.

For the Healthy Communities Foundation Australia, today carries particular significance. Through our National Rural and Remote Su***de Prevention Program, we see firsthand the importance of sustained, accessible support for communities across Australia.

We welcomed todayโ€™s announcement from Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Su***de Prevention, Emma McBride, of a two-year extension to the National Su***de Prevention Leadership and Support Programme, with $82.9 million in funding.

This investment provides important certainty and continuity for organisations delivering su***de prevention initiatives while work continues on the National Su***de Prevention Strategy.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of a national network working to strengthen su***de prevention โ€” and to ensure rural and remote communities remain part of that conversation.

Changing the narrative starts with a conversation.

Today, is World Su***de Prevention Day and R U Ok? Day, and weโ€™re joining the call to move from silence and stigma to openness, empathy and action.

Talking about su***de can feel difficult โ€” but starting the conversation can help someone feel heard, supported and less alone.

In this video, our Mental Health and Wellbeing team shares simple ways to reach out to someone who may be struggling.

Start the conversation. You never know what difference it might make.

Together, we can change the narrative, challenge stigma, and create a future where more lives are saved and more stories are shared.

Regional Australia is full of people who care deeply about the future of their communities โ€” and that was certainly on show at this yearโ€™s Bush Summit.

Our team was there for conversations spanning healthcare, workforce, infrastructure and the future of regional communities.

One message came through strongly: local voices matter.

For us, that means listening to communities, building genuine partnerships and finding better ways to deliver care and support closer to home.

A great couple of days of conversations, connections and ideas.

Are you a GP looking for greater flexibility while continuing to deliver meaningful, relationship-based care?

Healthy Communities Foundation Australia is looking for General Practitioners to join our growing aged care service, supporting residents across regional and rural NSW.

This is a predominantly virtual role, with quarterly facility visits and an established patient base โ€“ giving you the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in Australia.

- 70% Medicare billings + performance incentives
- Established patient base across NSW
- Team based care supported by Nurse Practitioners, RNs and facility teams
- Minimal administration โ€“ our team manages the logistics
- Flexible, predominantly virtual model
- Salary packaging and vehicle lease options

Most importantly, this is an opportunity to provide continuity of care โ€“ building trusted relationships with residents, families and facility teams while helping older Australians access quality healthcare closer to home.

Last week, our Mental Health and Wellbeing team travelled with the NRL to deliver the State of Mind program across schools in Walgett, Bullarah and Collarenebri.

We were also thrilled to host a BBQ at our Collarenebri Community Hub with the players. The players shared their experiences and spoke openly about the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
It was a great opportunity to connect with the community, hear your ideas and have conversations about what you would like to see in the future at the Collarenebri Community Hub.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, shared their stories and took the time to have a conversation with us. Your input is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to continuing to work alongside you all.

WALGETT SHIRE COUNCIL DID NOT PUT MONEY INTO TATTERSALLS ETC

The Galariinbaraay Community Plan site is published by RARMS to keep everyone up to date with progress on the Galariinbaraay Community Plan.

On one of the pages, we listed progress on the local plan to expand visitor accommodation so Colly can attract more tourists and create jobs for local people.

This included the upgrades to the accommodation at the pub, and building the cafe etc, which was done by Max, Phyllis and Ronnie, and the work on the primitive campground which was done by the Walgett Shire Council.

Funding for all the visitor accommodation projects was listed as "Tattersalls/Walgett Shire Council".

It appears that some folk in town thought that meant that the Council was funding the expansion of Tattersalls, the building of the cafe etc. That is plain wrong.

We thought everyone knew that Max funded the Tattersalls upgrade, cafe etc out of his own pocket.

RARMS acknowledges that the language we used may have been a bit confusing, so we are sorry about that.

We particularly want to apologise to Max, Ronnie and Phyllis who have done so much for the town, and to Jason who has done a great job as the local Mayor over the last year.

Just to be clear, Council did not fund any of the work at Tattersalls, the cafe etc!!!! Funding for the upgrading and expansion of Tattersalls was 100% funded by Max. Funding for the primitive campground (about $280,000) was funded by Walgett Shire Council.

It would be great if you can let everyone know about this.

No-one should be criticised for investing their own money in Collarenebri. It's really important for everyone in town to welcome this type of business investment in the town's future because it will increase tourism and help create new jobs for local kids. Max, Ronnie and Phyllis have done amazing things for Collarenebri. They deserve our thanks.

We are excited to announce the wheels are in motion for a new community transport route out of Collarenebri! ๐ŸšŒ

Today the Foundation received confirmation it was successful in securing $68,000 in funding for the Barraay Waraba (Fast Turtle) Collarenebri to Moree route. This route will be in addition to the Collarenebri to Walgett route, which begins on the 18th of July and runs every Monday and Friday.

The funding is part of the Access Regional Partnerships (TARP) grants program, ensuring access to low-cost transport options in remote and disadvantaged communities.
