Last week our Medicare Mental Health Centre's were out raising awareness for homelessness across the North West. Homelessness Week each year runs to build community support and drive government action to end homelessness.

North West Tasmania Women's Shelter, St Vincent de Paul Walk for Homelessness in Burnie, and The Man Walk in Devonport with the Devonport Men's Shelter.

Homelessness Week raises awareness of people experiencing homelessness, the issues they face and the action needed to achieve enduring solutions. It was great to hear about the contributions, connection, and passion from the people and organisations across our community who are working towards positive change.

Today marks the beginning of Homelessness Week 2026.

Homelessness Week raises awareness of people experiencing homelessness, the issues they face and the action needed to achieve enduring solutions. It's an opportunity to build understanding, challenge stigma, and support the collective action needed to ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.

Our Tasmanian Medicare Mental Health Centres will be attending various Homelessness Week events across Tasmania this week.

At the Burnie Medicare Mental Health Centre, we're committed to providing a welcoming space where people can access free mental health support without a referral or appointment.

International Friendship Day reminds us that friendship is more than sharing good times. It's about connection, belonging, and knowing someone is there when you need them.

A simple text, a catch-up, or asking "How are you really doing?" can make a meaningful difference to someone's day and wellbeing.

At the heart of good mental health is connection. Together, we can create communities where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

You don't have to have had a perfect week to celebrate your progress. Sometimes simply showing up, getting through the day, asking for help, or taking a break is an achievement worth recognising.

Take a moment to acknowledge what you've made it through.

This weekend, try to make time for something that helps you recharge. Whether that's spending time with loved ones, getting outside, reading a book, enjoying a hobby, or simply slowing down.

Be kind to yourself. Rest isn't something you have to earn. It's an important part of looking after your wellbeing.

Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026

This year's theme: β€œ50 years of deadly” is a tribute to the people who built this movement, the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

We celebrate strength, culture and leadership of First Nations peoples as they continue to shape the future with pride and purpose.

Let's continue to listen, learn and stand in solidarity, today and always.
