Birth is often talked about as a physical event.

Contractions.
Dilation.
Pushing.

But birth is also deeply neurological.
As labour unfolds, the brain begins to shift away from the thinking, analytical part of the brain and into a more instinctive state.

This is why many women in labour become quieter, more inward focused, and less interested in conversation or decision making.

It isn’t weakness.
It’s biology.

This instinctive state allows the body to release the hormones that guide birth:

• Oxytocin – to create contractions
• Endorphins – to help cope with intensity
• Adrenaline – to give energy when the baby is close to being born

But these hormones flow best when the nervous system feels safe.

When a woman feels supported, private, and calm, the brain can stay in this instinctive state and labour can unfold more smoothly.

Birth isn’t just something the body does.

It’s something the brain and body do together.

Birth preparation isn’t just about learning what might happen.

It’s about learning who you become inside the experience.

Because when labour begins,
your brain doesn’t access information the same way it does right now.

It moves into instinct.

And instinct is shaped by:

• your beliefs about birth
• the safety your nervous system feels
• the stories you've absorbed about pain and control
• the support around you

In my birth education, we don’t just learn about labour.

We explore the mind, beliefs, and nervous system that will walk into that birth room with you.

Because when a woman feels safe, supported and connected to her body…

Birth unfolds very differently.

And that preparation changes everything.

I’m not here to be in the birth room.

I’m here to change how women walk into it.
I created FEMME because I believe birth deserves preparation, not fear!

And motherhood deserves education, not silence.

Through FEMME, I offer birth planning sessions, postpartum preparation, and matrescence support.

Real conversations. Evidence-based information. Practical guidance. Emotional grounding.
Because becoming a mother isn’t just a physical event.

It’s a neurological, hormonal, identity shift.

And women deserve to understand that.

This space is for women who want to feel informed, not overwhelmed.

Prepared, not passive.
Supported, not sold to.

Welcome to FEMME 🤍

Balance electrolytes

Give you energy fast

Help prevent nausea

Next time you pack your hospital bag, think rice crackers, salted popcorn, or roasted nuts instead of candy. Your body (and taste buds) will thank you. 💛

If you didn’t bring food, good vibes, or a deep respect for boundaries… this visit is getting rescheduled.

Here’s the vibe check before entering a postpartum bubble:

1. Text before you trek

2. No surprise visits (this isn’t a rom-com)

3. We’re resting, not entertaining

4. If you hold the baby, you better hold the laundry, too

5. Meals appreciate greatly

6. Tick something off the to-do list

Boundaries aren't rude. They're the love language of a healing mum.

In the birthing space, there is no script to follow. Whether you whisper, moan, sing, or roar, every sound is a testament to your strength and presence.

COMMENT below your birth sounds.

I was a ROARER... oh, and a fair few swear words came out, and sarcastic comments 😅😅

So here’s the tea: making birth all about the cervix is like showing up to a Beyoncé concert and only paying attention to the stage lights. Sure, they’re important, but girl—you’re missing the whole damn performance.

The cervix is not the star of the show; it’s just the door. Yes, it needs to open. But does the door host the party? No. The uterus is doing the heavy lifting—it’s the headliner, pushing, pulsing, and working overtime like it’s in a full-body CrossFit class. Meanwhile, the pelvis is over here doing yoga to make room, and the baby? That little acrobat is twisting and diving like it’s training for the Olympics.

And let's not forget: if the vibe isn’t right—if mama’s stressed, scared, or feels like she’s birthing in the toilet at a Macca’s off the highway—yeah, things can go south real quick. Hormones get shy, muscles tense up, and suddenly, that “open sesame” cervix won’t budge.

So no, birth isn’t just about “how many centimetres are we?” It’s a wild, sweaty, emotional, whole-body-and-soul experience. Cervix? Important. But the main event? Love she’s just one dancer in the birth choreography.

This birth was truly life changing for me as a doula, and it took me to a new place. To witness birth in its rawest form was incredible and heart-opening. This beautiful story will always have a place in my heart ❤️

Here it is, the dream team of birth! The combination of an educated birth partner, doula, and midwife is the sweet spot. Do you want to know why???

Birth partner = History, intimate knowledge and connection, and love.

Doula = Educates partner and mumma, supports both mum and birth partner physically and emotionally, knowledge of the process of birth, unbiased/unjudgemental guidance.

Midwife = Medical knowledge, training and skills, education, and provides medical advice.

Obviously, this is a very minimal list of all the incredible things every team member does whilst supporting birth.

This gem came from a clients husband as we were planning their HBAC. I loved it and had to share 🌟

Firstly, both scenarios provide a sense of familiarity and comfort. Just as a mother feels most at ease in her own home during childbirth, athletes often perform best when they are in familiar surroundings. The familiarity of the turf or field can instil a sense of confidence and security, allowing athletes to focus entirely on their game without the distractions that come with unfamiliar venues.

Secondly, both home turf sports and homebirthing offer a unique sense of ownership and control. Just as a mother has agency and autonomy in her birthing experience at home, athletes have a similar sense of control when playing on their own turf. They know the quirks and nuances of the playing surface, giving them a strategic advantage over visiting teams. This sense of control can lead to a more empowering and empowering experience.

Moreover, there's a profound connection to the environment in both scenarios. In homebirthing, the mother often chooses her home as the birthing environment because of its comforting atmosphere and the ability to control factors like lighting and temperature. Similarly, athletes feel a deep connection to their home turf, knowing every bump and divot intimately. This connection can foster a sense of belonging and motivation, driving them to perform at their peak.

Lastly, both home turf sports and homebirthing can evoke a strong sense of community and support. Just as family and friends often gather to support a mother during homebirth, fans rally behind their team when playing on home turf. The roar of the crowd, the familiar faces in the stands, and the collective energy can all contribute to an uplifting and empowering experience for the athletes.

In essence, playing sports on your own turf is like homebirthing in that it provides a familiar, empowering, and deeply connected experience, where individuals can perform at their best surrounded by the comfort and support of their home environment

In the stillness between the surges, there is a moment where you can gather yourself, slow everything down, be grateful for the work your body is doing, and rest every muscle.

Acupressure and massage can work beautifully to help relieve any tense/discomfort the body after and during surges and promote the release of oxytocin to help the labour.

In this beautiful photo, I am using bladder 31-32 acupressure points. I teach these points to my clients and birth partners so they can use them.
