International Day of Charity- 5th September 2026

Today, we want to shine a light on one of the many ways we can honour the memory of someone we love, while supporting a cause that can make a real difference.

At Wedlake Funeral Home, we understand how important it is to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have died.

That’s why we offer online tribute pages in association with MuchLoved — a special social enterprise that is very close to our hearts.

A tribute page can provide a lasting place to remember someone, where you can:

🕯️ Light a candle
💬 Leave a message for the family
📸 Share a photograph
💷 Make a donation to a chosen charity
📅 Find details of the funeral service
❤️ Share the tribute with family and friends

Creating a tribute page is completely free, with no cost or obligation, and it can remain online for as long as you choose.

Sometimes, one of the most meaningful ways to remember someone is to do something positive in their name.

“A recommendation from another funeral director is praise indeed.”
To receive these words from the family of someone who has worked within our profession means more to our team than we can ever fully express.

Jan, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredibly kind feedback. Losing two parents so close together is an unimaginable heartbreak. To be invited back to walk alongside you and your family for a second time was a true privilege.

At Wedlake Funeral Home, we believe that every family deserves:
Genuine kindness & deep compassion when navigating the heaviest days.
Unwavering support from an independent, family-led team.
Total clarity on costs, ensuring peace of mind when it is needed most.

29 years ago today…

On 31 August 1997, the world woke to the devastating news that Princess Diana had died.

It was a moment of shock and disbelief — followed by a huge outpouring of grief.

Millions of people around the world mourned someone they had watched, admired and felt they somehow knew.

Many of us can still remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news.

Flowers appeared outside palaces, churches and homes. People stood together in silence. Strangers shared their sadness, united by a loss that felt deeply personal.

Nearly three decades later, Diana’s death remains one of those moments that reminds us how powerful grief can be — and how a death can touch people far beyond those who actually knew the person.

WHEN YOUR WORLD CHANGES IN AN INSTANT, YOU DESERVE MORE THAN A FUNERAL SERVICE.
You deserve someone who will listen.
Someone who will take their time.
Someone who will understand that behind every funeral is a person who was deeply loved — and a family trying to find their way through the hardest of days.
That is why being independent matters to Nick and David.
At Wedlake Funeral Home, we are proud to be a small, local, independent family funeral business.
Because being independent means we can put people before processes.
There is no script for grief.
No “one size fits all” way to say goodbye.
And no two families are ever the same.
We take the time to listen to your wishes, understand what matters to you and help you create a farewell that truly reflects the person you love.
We’ll answer your questions.
We’ll explain your choices.
We’ll never rush you into decisions.
And because we’re a small local business, we work hard to keep our costs as low as possible — without ever compromising on the care, dignity and personal service we provide.
But perhaps the most important thing is this:
We genuinely care.
We care about the families who trust us.
We care about getting the little things right.
We care about treating every person who comes into our care with the dignity they deserve.
And we care about being there — not just for the funeral, but for the people left behind.
Because to us, you’re not a number.
You’re a family.
You’re a person.
And your loved one matters.
Independent.
Local.
Personal.
Caring.
That’s why we’re proud to be Wedlake Funeral Home, established in 1921.
If you’ve ever experienced the difference that kindness, time and personal care can make during a difficult time, please share this post.
You never know who in your own circle may need to find a funeral director they can truly trust.

As the week draws to a close, the cars are parked away for the last time and the doors close for the weekend… we take a moment to simply say thank you.

Thank you to every family who has trusted us with the care of their loved one this week.

We know what a privilege that is — and it’s one we never take for granted.

Behind every funeral is a family. A story. A lifetime of memories. And often, people experiencing some of the most difficult days they will ever face.

Our role is to walk alongside you through those days, providing care, dignity, compassion and support — from the first phone call to the moment we say our final goodbye.

And if this weekend finds you facing those difficult final days with someone you love, or perhaps beginning to think about arranging a funeral, please remember:

You are not alone.

Our offices may be closed for the weekend, but our phones remain available when you need us.

📞 St Austell: 01726 211555
📞 Higher Bugle: 01726 850216

Whatever this weekend brings, take care of yourself and those around you.

And remember — sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply be there.

The work you don’t always see…

Part of preparing for a funeral happens long before the cortege arrives.

Getting the funeral cars ready, making sure they are spotless, polished and presented perfectly is just one of the many things we do behind the scenes.

It might seem like a small detail, but to us, every detail matters. Because when a family says goodbye to someone they love, everything should be just right.
