About Corowa LHAC
LHAC Role

Committees are made up of volunteer members who represent the cross section of their local community in age, gender, professional and cultural background. Included in membership is one clinical representative (not employed by MLHD or MPHN) and one peer nominated staff representative. Meetings are attended by Corowa Health Services Facility Manager and Cluster manager f

or the purpose of providing reporting, data and information. The LHAC acts as a link between the community and the local health service and can contribute to the following primary functions:

Advocate for patients/carers and local community needs – represent your community’s needs and provide feedback to The Partners about ideas, concerns and interests of the local community. Keep the community informed – play an important part in the connection, community feedback and engagement of MLHD facilities and MPHN to the local community. Promote Health and Wellbeing – raise awareness in the local community about health services available and help to promote healthy lifestyle choices within the community. Seek support for initiatives which promote and educate on health and wellbeing. Service Planning – take part in planning and development of health services by being involved in consultations and providing feedback during service planning. Education – to raise awareness, inform and promote local and district wide initiatives and activities

Projects - LHACs are encouraged to establish their own agreed local priorities and projects for the year. It is recommended that these align to the directions of the Health District and Primary Health Network and be supported by the Facility Manager. Networking - LHACs are encouraged to share their strategies, learnings and experiences with other LHACs across the district.

What's on around the district: World Su***de Prevention Day 💛

This Thursday, September 10 is World Su***de Prevention Day, an opportunity to come together, check on your friends, family and colleagues and help change the narrative on su***de.

Su***de is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15-49 years. About 1 in 8 Australians has seriously considered su***de at some stage in their life.

This year, R U OK Day falls on the same day, the second Thursday of September. All the more reason to come together with your local community to check in and have a chat.

At our meeting yesterday we had Liz Hare from the Albury Wodonga Diabetes Support Group talk to us about how they can help the 8.5% of Corowa and Oakland’s area people who have either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
They meet once a month for a coffee and chat. You are most welcome to join them and learn how you can get help with your diabetes. Below is their form and information.

What a great session yesterday at the Corowa CWA rooms. Over 30 people joined in listening to Max and Joel, NSW Health social worker and palliative care nurse talk about what palliative care is and the process. Then we had Shawn and Lauren from Kell More who spoke on wills and power of attorney. Lastly Tony Jones and Melissa talked through funerals.
It was Dying to know Day. A great morning tea by the Blue Gum Cafe was also provided.
