Corryong Health

Corryong Health Our purpose: "We provide people with healthcare that matters to them." Corryong Health is part of the Hume Local Service Network

Our History
The origins of the Health Service date back to 1897 when plans to build the Corryong Cottage Hospital were conceived. In 1902 the foundation stone was laid for what then became known as the Victoria Cottage Hospital. In 1916 the foundation stone of the present hospital was laid. Over the years, the number of acute beds rose to its peak of forty-two in the 1960’s and on 5th November 198

3 the Upper Murray Nursing Home, a 20-bed high aged care facility, was opened. In the early 1990’s the Agency took the opportunity to apply to be funded under the Multi-Purpose Program. This was to enable a more flexible and responsive service to be developed that would met the changing needs of our isolated rural community. In 1995 the Services was renamed Upper Murray Health & Community Services and commenced operation as a Multi-Purpose Service (MPS). In 2017 the agency was renamed Corryong Health. Today, Corryong Health is a highly integrated and considerably larger organisation providing a broad range of hospital, residential aged care, medical and primary health and community support services. The service also operates a Medical Clinic, Health and Fitness Centre and the Retirement Village. Our Health Service is truly responsive to the community’s needs.

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness.

Not everyone experiences symptoms,
particularly in the early stages of bowel cancer.
Symptoms can also be caused by other medical conditions, foods, or medicines.

Don’t delay speaking with your GP if you experience symptoms for two weeks or more. When detected early, almost 99% of bowel cancer cases can be successfully treated.

National Reconciliation Week was recognised on Wednesday with a Yarning Circle facilitated by Aunty Liz Heta, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) from Albury Wodonga Health (AWH). Local First Nations people and their families were invited to yarn with Liz, in the spirit of truth telling and working with the health service to strengthen cultural safety. Kiley Walkerden, Koori Education Support Officer (KESO) for the Upper Murray also participate in the session and together, Corryong Health staff learned more about the local First Nations history and local protocols.

National Reconciliation Week’s 'All In' theme, reminds us that reconciliation requires all of us to engage in meaningful conversations, shared experiences and ongoing commitment every day. 🧡

Through decades of nursing, community leadership and advocacy, Liz has worked to bridge understanding, empower others and ensure Aboriginal people receive care grounded in respect, compassion and culture.
