Sleepover shift or active overnight support? Check your knowledge 😊

A sleepover shift isn’t the same as active overnight supports. Do you know the difference?

During a sleepover shift, workers can sleep unless the participant needs support. Active overnight supports are different – workers must remain awake during normal sleeping hours to provide support.

The difference matters, but it’s not the only thing NDIS providers and workers need to know. Sleepover shifts also need to be set up appropriately to support worker safety, manage fatigue and prevent harm to participants.

🛠 What are your tips and hacks for taking care of your assistive technology (AT)?
💙 The best AT advice often comes from people who use it every day.

💬 We'd love to hear your clever, unexpected or "I wish someone had told me sooner!" tips.

✅ Here are some that we can think of:

🦽 Wheelchairs: take photos of your chair’s setup before a repair or flight, so it’s easier to reset to the way you like it.

🦻 Hearing aids: keep a spare battery or charger in your bag, car or desk.

📱 Communication devices: back up your personalised settings regularly so they’re easier to restore if your device needs replacing.

🛌 Larger equipment: keep a note with service dates, serial numbers and provider contact details so everything is in one place when you need it.

🎒 Bonus hack: keep an AT “go bag” with the little things you don't want to forget for the day, like chargers, cables, batteries or small repair items.

📞 If something feels wrong or isn't working as it should, you can also contact your service provider.

💰 If your AT is NDIS-funded, maintenance and repairs may be covered by your plan – be sure to discuss them during your planning or reassessment meeting.
