🧠 Is the neurodiversity "trend" actually just... science catching up?

Dr Hannah Korrel is back on Radio this afternoon to tackle the question a lot of people are quietly thinking but feel awkward asking; is the explosion in ADHD and autism diagnoses actually real, or is it just a fad?

Spoiler: it's not a fad.

Tune in as Hannah unpacks what ADHD and autism actually are, why diagnoses have surged in recent years, and why that's not a sign of overdiagnosis; but a diagnostic system finally catching up with something that was always there.

About a week before I gave birth, I did an episode with the fantastic Yumi Stynes. We chatted about friendships, breakups and how to navigate these delicate issues in our adulthood.

I was sooo pregnant recording this episode, I think you can hear it in my voice πŸ˜‚ 🀰🏼

ASSERT YOURSELF

Thanks for having me on the ✨✨

Time to park the old 'just be nice' thing for a minute, we'll talk more about that later. But right now, the firecracker, Dr. Hannah Korrel is in the house. She's a Clinical Neuropsychologist, Registered Psychologist, author and an absolute rockstar when it comes to talking about how to be assertive, set boundaries and stop self-gaslighting... Oh yeah, raise your hand if you too indulge in a bit of that from time to time.

I really loved this chat with Dr. Hannah around all of the above, it's a bunch of the sometimes-complex human and relationship stuff that many of us grapple with at times and conversations like this one with Dr. H sure helps to highlight where we might be short-changing ourselves. So listen in, and let's all not do that anymore :)

Are you struggling this chrissie? If you could feel 1% better, would you take it?
If something made you feel 5% worse, would you reject it?

You are so beautifully in control ❀️ you can choose actions that will help and add up to feeling better.

My absolute KEY tips to feeling better are:

πŸ₯— You MUST eat. Even if you don't feel like it. Think of it like, a skipped meal = 5% worse. Even a small meal = 1% better.

πŸ’§you must keep drinking water. Don't forget. You must!!!

🚫πŸ₯ƒ even ONE glass of alcohol is know to change your neurochemistry. Eg making you feel 5% worse. If you're already running on empty can you afford another 5% worse? NOT drinking will = 1% better tomorrow. Do your future self a favour and know you will be better off having sober fun!

The above are essential. The below are also essential but when you have more energy.

❀️ Connect. Call. Cuddle. Be with those you trusts and love. Who are on your team. This means, not those that caused the pain or are associated with the pain.

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ move your body. You have to move it to actually creative the happy neurotransmitters. Eg 5% worse if you don't stand outside and feel the sunlight and have a light walk. 1% better if you do.

All of the above FUELS your body to create happy neurotransmitters and helps you feel better.

It's little actions that add up. Just take it one small action at a time.
