College of Professional Psychology Our flexible, practical programs are open to eligible psychology graduates wanting to apply for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia

The College of Professional Psychology was established in 1993. For over 20 years, we have been providing comprehensive programs that bridge the gap between tertiary studies and a career as a registered psychologist. Our aim is to make a positive contribution to the mental wellbeing of the wider community by expanding the capabilities and practical experience of psychologists. We achieve this by providing the most comprehensive psychology registration internship programs in Australia. We deliver a curriculum that is innovative and current whilst meeting the Psychology Board of Australia's approval.

Boundary questions often hide in everyday details: a client who's also your neighbour, a friend request, a gift.

The NPE looks for the answer that avoids relationships that could impair your judgement or risk harm. Where one can't be avoided, as in a small town, the best answer discusses it openly, sets clear limits, consults and documents.

The best answer usually does things in this order: make sure of immediate safety, assess the risk, consult, then document.

Starting the 5+1 internship? Your internship plan sets out the year.

It covers how you'll build each core competency, your practice and supervision arrangements, and your professional development. Your principal supervisor helps you write it, and it's reviewed as you go.

Programme 5+1 supports provisional psychologists through this year, with supervision, workshops, e-learning and placement support.

Score conversions come up often in the Assessment domain. On one curve:
• z-score: mean 0, SD 1
• Standard score: mean 100, SD 15
• T-score: mean 50, SD 10

One SD above the mean is z = +1, a standard score of 115 and about the 84th percentile.

Two words that come up across the Assessment domain.

Reliability: does the test give consistent results?
Validity: does it measure what it claims to measure?

A test can be reliable without being valid, like a scale that's always 2 kg out. It can't be valid without being reliable.

Since 1 December 2025 the Board's professional competencies sit behind NPE questions as context, but the exam still has four domains with the same weighting: Ethics, Assessment and Intervention at 30% each, Communication at 10%. Informed consent is more than a signature. On the NPE, look for the answer that covers all four steps:
1. Explain the service, fees and the limits of confidentiality
2. Check the client understands
3. Make sure the choice is voluntary and the client has capacity
4. Record the consent, and revisit it as things change
