💖 An important message to our AMAZING community 💖

Many of us are facing some tough times ahead. We are here to support our community as we have always done.

We are working very hard to keep BULK BILLING alive in Croydon because we believe EVERYONE should have access to GREAT medical care regardless of the size of their BANK BALANCE 💖

With increasing costs this is definitely getting harder but we are not ready to give up!

You can help in the following ways:

💖 BYO mask to your appointment. We will supply one if you forget but this gets pretty expensive 😬

💖 Please show up to your appointment. If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can use your spot for someone else.

💖 Try to stick to one issue for each standard appointment. If you need more time, feel free to book a long appointment, or come back another day.

💖 Be patient and kind to our people. They are doing their best every day. We are still suffering from shortages due to COVID and other illnesses 😔

❤️ Take care of yourselves and each other ❤️

💖 Your dedicated team at CMC💖

Shout out here to show us your support!

What is Orthoptics?

Orthoptics is a discipline in eye healthcare specialising in the assessment, diagnosis and non-surgical management of eye disorders.

Orthoptists were traditionally involved in the management of patients with eye movement disorders and specifically with strabismus (squint), double vision and amblyopia (lazy eye). Over the last several decades orthoptists have expanded their role and not only specialise in eye movement disorders but are also involved in the care of patients with eye disease such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, age related macular degeneration, systemic or neurological vision disorders and low vision.

Orthoptics is essential to promoting better quality of life in both adults and children with vision problems.

🔶Today is Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) awareness

What are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis?
Known collectively as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system, causing abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, re**al bleeding, fever, and weight loss.
Crohn's disease may attack anywhere along the digestive tract, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). In addition to the impact on the GI tract, in some patients, IBD may also affect the joints, skin, bones, kidneys, liver, and eyes.

* World Asthma Day *
Asthma is a medical condition that affects the airways (the breathing tubes that carry air into our lungs). From time to time, people with asthma find it harder to breathe in and out, because the airways in their lungs become narrower – like trying to breathe through a thin straw.

Although asthma cannot be cured, it is possible to manage asthma to reduce and prevent asthma attacks and for most people they can remain active and healthy.

World Asthma Day is organised by the Global Initiative for Asthma and the theme for 2022 is ‘Closing Gaps in Asthma Care’. There are a number of gaps in asthma care which include:
• In asthma knowledge and awareness with patients;
• In diagnosis between asthma and other long term conditions;
• Between prescribing inhalers and monitoring adherence and ability to use the devices;
• In communication and education provided for people with asthma.

For good control of asthma, you the right medicines – taken the right way and at the right time, regular medical visits for check-ups and to learn more about living with asthma and lastly an action plan, so you know exactly what to do when symptoms happen.

If you are concerned about your own asthma or need to get it checked, make an appointment with your GP by calling reception on 9722 9200

Many patients have asked why they must have attended our practice within the last 12 months for a face to face consult in order to be able to be bulk billed for phone consults.

Here is a direct excerpt from the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Medicare) Factsheet dated 16/11/2021 stating telehealth eligibility requirements:

"Who is eligible?
The temporary MBS telehealth items are available to providers of telehealth services for a wide range of consultations. All Medicare eligible Australians can receive these services if they have an established clinical relationship with a GP, OMP, or a medical practice. This requirement supports longitudinal and person-centred primary health care that is associated with better health outcomes.
An established relationship means the medical practitioner performing the service:
• has provided at least one face-to-face service to the patient in the 12 months preceding the telehealth attendance; or
• is located at a medical practice where the patient has had at least one face-to-face service arranged by that practice in the 12 months preceding the telehealth attendance (including services performed by another doctor located at the practice, or a service performed by another health professional located at the practice, such as a practice nurse or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker)".

For this reason, unfortunately if a patient has not visited our practice within the last 12 months, they will not be eligible for a bulk billed telehealth/phone consult service until they return for a face to face service billed using MBS item numbers. Until this occurs, patients are able to access non rebatable private phone consults, however it is strongly recommended that the patient attend the practice for a face to face service (billed using MBS item numbers) in order to reset the 12 month eligibility window.
