The Road to Rural (R2R) Intern Program enables interns based in metro hospitals to experience the diversity of rural medicine early in their careers, where they are an integral part of the rural health team and local community.

Experience rural medicine early in your career - working alongside Rural Generalists and getting a taste of the rural lifestyle.

To be part of the R2R Intern Program, final year medicine students can apply via South Australian Medical Education and Training when Intern applications open next month on 5 May, 2026.
