🌿 The Magic Combo: Spleen 6 + Liver 3 🌿

😂 Confessions of an Acupuncturist 😂

Okay… we need to address something. A public service announcement, if you will.

Owner-operator Dr Kirby, TCM has a little… habit.

Every time she looks at someone’s tongue or feels their pulse, she makes this sound:
“Hmmm…”

Good tongue, bad tongue, scalloped edges, perfect pink, quivering, cracked, textbook example—it does. not. matter. The sound is always the same.

“Hmmm…” 👩‍⚕️

We promise it doesn’t mean bad news. It doesn’t actually mean anything. It’s just… Kirby’s “diagnostic processing noise.”

She’s aware of it. She’s working on it. In fact, if she catches herself doing it during your session, she’ll probably laugh and call herself out. 🙈

So, if you hear “hmmm” mid-appointment, don’t panic. Your tongue is probably perfect. Or maybe it isn’t. But either way… we’ve already apologised here first. 😜

🌿 The Large Intestine Channel in Chinese Medicine 🌿

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Large Intestine channel runs from the tip of your index finger, up the arm, across the shoulder, and finishes beside the nose. While it’s connected to digestion physically, in TCM its role goes far beyond “just moving waste.”

✨ Its Deeper Functions

Governs the transformation and elimination of what the body no longer needs

Supports the skin and lungs (think immune system + vitality)

Plays a role in releasing what no longer serves you—physically and emotionally

Spotlight on Large Intestine 11 (LI11 / Quchi)

One of the most famous points on this channel, LI11, is located at the outer end of your elbow crease. It’s a powerhouse point we often use for:
🌡️ Clearing Heat – calming inflammation, fevers, and “heat signs” like acne or rashes
💧 Balancing Fluids – supporting hydration and skin health
🌬️ Boosting Immunity – used to help the body fight colds, flus, and allergies

In Chinese medicine, we don’t just look at symptoms—we look at you as a whole. To understand what’s happening beneath the surface, we use a beautiful framework called The Four Examinations:

1. Looking (Observation) 👀

Your practitioner observes your complexion, posture, skin, tongue, and even the brightness in your eyes. Your tongue is like a little map of your internal world—showing us the state of your digestive system, fluids, and circulation.

2. Listening & Smelling 👂👃

It might sound strange, but the tone of your voice, the sound of your breathing, and even subtle scents can tell us a lot about your inner balance.

3. Asking (The Ten Questions) ❓

This is where we dive deep into your health story:

Sleep patterns

Energy levels

Digestion and appetite

Menstrual cycles

Pain

Emotions

Temperature regulation

Urination and bowel health

Sweating
