Let’s talk lymphatic drainage massage.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a very light massage. The therapist is very gentle with pressure so that it is effective in reaching the lymphatic system and not working with your muscles. The lymphatic system is like a highway of fluid that sits close to the surface. There is one major group of lymph nodes on the back of the body (behind the knees) and the rest are on the front (neck, armpits, stomach and groin) fluid needs to be moved to these areas so they can then be flushed from the body.

Clients may experience headaches after a treatment. This is beaten by having really good hydration. Putting electrolytes in your water is often a popular choice. Hydration is important after any massage treatment.

To keep results going and to support the lymphatic system after treatment your therapist will encourage hydration, rest for two hours after treatment then movement and exercise, nutrition that focuses on minimising inflammation in the good, quality sleep, heat and contrast therapies, reducing stress and promoting deep breathing.
