Yah Everyone, Tasmania has it first recorded case of H5N1 Bird flue.
What bird flu might look like
Sick birds might seem like they have breathing problems or neurological issues (unable to fly or stand, loss of balance). In short they look like they have the flu! Groups of dead birds (more than 4 or 5) are also cause for concern. If in doubt, report it.
What you should do
Watch out for sick or dead birds and mammals
Avoid Record Report
Avoid – do not attempt to touch, catch or approach a potentially infected animal
Record – note the time, date, an accurate location and if possible take photos and video of the animal and the larger area where you observe it.
Report – call the hotline 1800 675 888 (ideally while you can still see the animal)
