This week is National Asthma week.

At Capital Chemist Dapto our pharmacists can:

Time to spring clean your medications!

Check all medicines for expiry dates and remove any that have expired or served their purpose. Don’t be tempted to hold on to medicines just in case you need them for the future. Most medicines deteriorate over time, becoming less effective or even potentially harmful if they are used after their expiry date. ��The best way to dispose of your medicines is to return it to Capital Chemist Dapto to dispose of through the Return Unwanted Medicines (RUM) program. Please don’t put them down the toilet or in the rubbish bin as this can lead to environmental damage.

Let’s talk about Magnesium.

Magnesium is an electrolyte which helps with the health of your heart and brain, as well as muscle and nerve function. It can help ease muscle pain and also assist with sleep.
Magnesium is important:
• For muscles and nerves to work properly
• To keep blood sugar and blood pressure at the right level
• To make proteins, bone and your DNA.
Magnesium is found in green leafy vegetables, brown rice, bread, meat, fish, nuts and some dairy products. People with coeliac disease or those who choose to follow a gluten-free diet may consider supplementing magnesium, as grains are a rich source of this essential mineral.

If you live In the Illawarra area and need your medicine home delivered you can receive ONE FREE DELIVERY per week. If you are local, we can usually deliver to you the same day if your order is received by 11 am Monday to Friday. You can order by phone or by email. If you aren’t local, we can arrange delivery by registered/express post – charges apply.

This week is National Stroke Awareness week. When it comes to a stroke – think FAST to save a life
A stroke occurs when essential blood supply to the brain is suddenly reduced. This can quickly cause serious damage to brain cells, so it is important to act FAST in the event of a stroke.
F – Face. Has the face or mouth dropped?
A – Arms. Can they lift both arms?
S – Speech. Is it slurred? Can they understand you?
T – Time. If you see these signs of stroke – call 000 immediately and ask for an ambulance.
NOTE: Even if symptoms go away on their own, you may have experienced a mini stroke which may be a warning sign - please do not hesitate to call 000.

Other signs of stroke
• Weakness, paralysis or loss of sensation elsewhere in the body, on one or both sides.
• Loss of vision, blurred vision, or severe and sudden onset headache.
• Dizziness, loss of balance, or unexplained falling.
• Drowsiness, loss of consciousness or difficulty swallowing.

Decrease your risk of a stroke
High blood pressure and high cholesterol serve as warnings for a stroke – keep them under control by choosing:
• Healthy diet
• Active lifestyle
• Limited alcohol
• Not to smoke
