Does tightness in your calf, shoulder or hip keep returning, even after you’ve stretched or rested it?

Dry needling is one of the techniques our practitioners may use when tight or sensitive muscles are contributing to pain or limiting your movement.

It involves placing fine needles into specific areas of the muscle. Depending on what is causing your symptoms, it may be used alongside hands-on treatment and rehabilitation exercises to help reduce muscle sensitivity and make movement more comfortable.

Dry needling is available with:

• Nelson - physiotherapist
• Matt - chiropractor
• Taneta - chiropractor

It isn’t the right treatment for every person or every type of pain, so your practitioner will assess the area and discuss whether it is suitable for you.

If you have a tight or tender area that keeps bothering you, mention it at your next appointment or book online at www.dardanuphealth.com.au

This week is Birth Trauma Awareness Week, and it's an opportunity to talk about something that affects many families, but the lasting affects often aren’t spoken about.

As a chiropractor, I've been privileged to care for many women during pregnancy and after they've welcomed their babies. As a mum, I also know that birth isn't always the experience we imagined it would be.

Sometimes, a woman will tell me about her birth months later. Sometimes it's years later. Often, it's the first time she's said out loud that she still thinks about what happened, or that she never really felt okay afterwards.

But usually, its a mum who hasn't even announced her next pregnancy, but is already doing everything she can to empower herself and her body, to avoid her previous experience again.

Birth trauma isn't about whether someone else thinks your birth was "bad enough" or whether you and your baby were okay.

It's about how you experienced it.

Two people can go through very similar births and walk away with completely different feelings, and both experiences are valid, and it is okay to have feelings that are less than positive.

It doesn't mean you don't love your baby, or aren't grateful for their existence.

If this post encourages one person to share their story, reach out for support, realise they aren't alone, or their feelings are okay and don't define their motherhood then that's a conversation worth having.

Every birth story deserves to be heard.

💚 Did you know? Lymphatic massage is one of the gentlest forms of massage.

When people hear the word massage, they often expect firm pressure and deep muscles.

Lymphatic massage is different.

The lymphatic vessels sit just beneath the skin, so gentle, rhythmic movements are used to encourage the movement of lymph fluid. More pressure isn't necessarily better—in fact, it can be less effective for this type of treatment.

Lymphatic massage may be appropriate for people experiencing:
✨ Swelling or fluid retention
✨ Recovery after surgery (when approved by your treating team)
✨ Lymphoedema management as part of a broader care plan
✨ A feeling of heavy or tired limbs

Every person is different, so treatment begins with an assessment to determine whether lymphatic massage is appropriate for your individual needs.

If you've been curious about lymphatic massage but weren't sure what it involved, we're always happy to answer your questions.

Shoulder pain can make everyday tasks surprisingly frustrating.

Simple things like reaching into a cupboard, washing your hair, hanging out the washing or lifting the shopping can suddenly become difficult when your shoulder isn't moving well.

The good news is that shoulder pain isn't something you have to simply "put up with."

Our physiotherapists take the time to assess what's contributing to your symptoms before developing an individualised treatment plan. Depending on your needs, treatment may include hands-on therapy, guided exercise and practical advice to help you move with greater confidence.

Whether your shoulder pain started gradually or after an injury, we're here to help you get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Call our friendly team or book online to arrange an appointment.

Living with swelling?

Swelling isn't always "just swelling."

For some people, persistent swelling can continue long after surgery, injury or cancer treatment. Others may be living with lymphoedema or chronic swelling that affects comfort, movement and everyday activities.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle treatment designed to support the movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body. As part of an individualised treatment plan, it may help support:

✔ Lymphoedema management
✔ Recovery after surgery
✔ Chronic swelling
✔ Heavy or tired limbs
✔ Comfort and everyday movement

At Dardanup Health & Wellness Centre, we take an evidence-informed approach, tailoring treatment to your individual needs and goals.

If you've been living with ongoing swelling and aren't sure where to start, our team is here to help.
