It's Not Too Late to Get Your Flu Vaccine πŸ’‰

Flu season is here, and vaccination remains one of the best ways to help protect yourself and those around you from serious illness.

While the flu can cause mild symptoms for some, it can lead to complications for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

Getting your annual flu vaccine can help:
βœ… Reduce your risk of getting the flu
βœ… Lower the chance of severe illness and hospitalisation
βœ… Help protect vulnerable family members and your community

Remember, the flu virus changes each year, so it's important to receive an updated vaccine annually.

If you haven't had your flu shot yet, there's still time to book.

πŸ“ž Contact our practice to make an appointment or speak with our team if you have any questions about the flu vaccine.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and skin changes can occur at any time of the year β€” not only during summer.
Monitoring your skin for new or changing spots may help identify lesions that require medical assessment. Signs that may warrant review can include:
β€’ Changes in size, shape, or colour
β€’ Spots that bleed or do not heal
β€’ New or evolving lesions
β€’ Areas that become itchy or tender
Regular sun protection, including sunscreen, protective clothing, hats, and shade, remains important in South Australia due to high UV exposure levels.

The ABCDE method is a simple guide that may help you notice changes in moles or skin spots that should be assessed by a doctor.
A – Asymmetry
One half of the spot does not match the other.
B – Border
Edges may appear irregular, blurred, or uneven.
C – Colour
Multiple colours or uneven pigmentation within the same spot.
D – Diameter
A spot that is growing or larger than expected (often around 6mm, but not always).
E – Evolving
Any change over time in size, shape, colour, or symptoms such as itching or bleeding.
It’s important to remember that not all skin changes are harmful, but new or changing lesions may benefit from medical assessment.

If you notice concerning changes to your skin, speak with your GP to discuss whether a skin assessment is appropriate for your circumstances.

Winter Skin Checks β„οΈβ˜€οΈ
Skin cancer can occur year-round, including during the cooler months.
While many people associate sun exposure with summer, UV radiation remains present in South Australia throughout winter. Previous sun exposure over time can also contribute to skin changes later in life.
Monitoring your skin for new or changing spots is important in every season. A skin assessment may help identify lesions that require further investigation.
Signs to look out for may include:
β€’ A spot that changes in size, shape, or colour
β€’ A lesion that bleeds or does not heal
β€’ New or evolving skin changes
β€’ Areas that become itchy, tender, or crusted
If you have concerns about changes to your skin, speak with your GP to discuss whether a skin check is appropriate for you.
