What keeps you steady when you turn a corner, step off a curb or catch yourself after an unexpected misstep?

Your muscles are only part of the answer. 🧠

Balance relies on your brain making sense of information from your eyes, inner ear, muscles and joints, then coordinating how your body responds. As we age, continuing to challenge this brain-body connection can be an important part of staying active and moving confidently.

Our latest blog takes a closer look at what’s happening behind everyday balance and why coordination deserves more attention as we get older.

Your brain needs movement too. 🧠

As we get older, supporting brain health becomes an important part of ageing well. Physical activity can support healthy blood flow to the brain, while learning and following movements engages memory, focus, and coordination.

This can become especially important during retirement, when familiar routines and everyday activities may begin to look different.

Our telehealth exercise program gives older adults a practical way to keep both body and mind engaged through guided movement from home.

Give your brain another reason to stay active. Join our next round.

Stepping onto a curb. Taking the stairs. Getting up onto a slightly raised surface.

These everyday movements ask more from our legs and balance than we might realise.
This week’s move, the Step-Up with Knee Drive, works on the strength, balance, and coordination behind many of those everyday moments. It’s a simple exercise you can practise at home using a low exercise block or the first step of a staircase.

Balance isn't just about avoiding falls—it's what helps us move confidently through everyday life.
Simple tasks like stepping over a curb, reaching into a cupboard, turning around or getting out of a chair all rely on good postural control. As we age, these movements can become more challenging, but regular exercise can help keep the body strong, responsive and ready for everyday activities.

One of the biggest advantages of telehealth exercise is convenience. Instead of worrying about travel or the weather, you can join guided exercise sessions from home, making it easier to stay consistent with your routine. And when it comes to maintaining strength and balance, consistency is what makes the biggest difference.

A fall can change more than your physical health—it can also affect your confidence.
After a fall last year, Sandy found herself reaching for furniture whenever she walked around her home. Even familiar spaces didn't feel quite as safe anymore.

Her daughter encouraged her to join our Telehealth Group Exercise Program, where she began taking part in physiotherapist-guided online exercise sessions from home.
Four weeks later, Sandy was feeling stronger, more confident with her balance and starting to trust her movements again.

Every person's journey is different, but with the right guidance and regular exercise, it's possible to build strength, improve balance and feel more confident in your everyday movement.

Did you know we naturally lose muscle mass and strength as we age? This age-related muscle loss is called sarcopenia, and it can begin as early as our 30s, becoming more noticeable later in life.

Sarcopenia isn't just about feeling weaker. It can make everyday tasks—such as getting up from a chair, climbing stairs, carrying groceries or walking longer distances—more challenging. It can also increase the risk of falls and make it harder to stay independent.

The good news is that sarcopenia isn't an inevitable part of ageing. Regular strength and balance exercises, along with staying active throughout the day, can help slow muscle loss and support healthy ageing.

Even small habits matter. Standing up more often, taking a short walk, carrying light household items or following a regular exercise routine can all help keep your muscles working.

If you're looking for guided support, our Telehealth Group Exercise Program offers live online exercise sessions designed specifically for older adults. Exercise from the comfort of home with the support of our experienced team.

Many of us don't realise we've started leaning forward when we walk. It often happens gradually over time, especially if we've spent years sitting more, looking down at phones, or dealing with stiffness or discomfort.

Walking with a more upright posture doesn't mean standing stiff like a soldier. Instead, it means keeping your head up, your shoulders relaxed, and looking ahead rather than at your feet. This can help you feel more comfortable when walking and make it easier to see where you're going.

Your walking posture can improve over time. Building strength, improving flexibility and practising good movement habits can help you move more comfortably.

If you'd like guided support, our Telehealth Group Exercise Program brings physiotherapist-led exercise sessions to you from the comfort of home.

👉 Enrol today and take the next step towards moving with confidence.

Good posture isn't about sitting perfectly straight all day—it's about having the strength to move comfortably throughout your daily life.

Shoulder blade squeezes are a simple exercise that can help strengthen the muscles in your upper back, supporting better posture, shoulder stability and everyday movements. Whether you're reaching into a cupboard, carrying your shopping or getting dressed, keeping these muscles strong can make everyday tasks feel easier and more comfortable.

Regular exercise is most effective when it's part of a structured routine. Our Telehealth Group Exercise Program offers physiotherapist-guided sessions designed to help you build strength, improve balance and stay active from the comfort of home.
