One of my favourite parts of Spirit Quest is watching a collection of raw materials slowly become something personal.

Over the seven days, you will make your own medicine drum, drum be**er, rattle and feather saining tool, along with other small pieces created throughout the journey.

They are not made simply to take home and put on a shelf. You learn how to work with them, care for them and continue building your own relationship with them after the retreat.

No previous experience is needed. I will guide you through each piece, step by step.

🌿 Welcome to Earthcraft.

You may have noticed things look a little different around here.

The transition is now complete, and Craft of Heart and Hearth has become Earthcraft.

This change has been a long time in the making. What began with creating, making and teaching has grown into something much broader - retreats, Medicine Drum Birthing, plant medicine, ceremonial practice, traditional skills, the Medicine Wheel, learning journeys and a deeper exploration of our relationship with the living world.

Earthcraft is the home that now holds all of this work.

The handmade ceremonial tools and crafted pieces you know and love remain an important part of what we do, but they now sit within a much bigger story.

Earthcraft is grounded in three foundational teachings:

🌿 Respect for Yourself
🌿 Respect for Others
🌿 Respect for the Earth

They guide how we make, how we teach, how we gather and how we walk this path together.

At the centre of Earthcraft is something I have come to understand more deeply through this work:

We do not return once.
We learn how to return.

To ourselves.
To relationship.
To the land.
To our hands.
To old knowledge and new understanding.
And to a way of living that remembers we are part of the living world, not separate from it.

So this isn't really the beginning.

It is the continuation of everything that came before - under a name that finally has room to hold where we are going.

Not every threshold announces itself.

Some are unmistakable. A birth. A death. A wedding. A separation. A new job. A move. The world reshapes itself visibly, and we are called to witness it.

But others arrive without ceremony.

You realise you no longer believe what you once believed.

A friendship changes shape.

A role that fitted you for years begins to feel too small.

Something you tolerated becomes impossible to ignore.

You have not crossed yet. But you cannot pretend you are standing in the same place.

These quieter thresholds deserve our attention before we rush to label them as problems to solve.

Sometimes the most sacred act is simply recognising: something has changed. And I need to meet that change consciously.

In shamanic tradition, every threshold is a liminal space. A between-place. Where the old self has released, and the new has not yet fully arrived. These moments are not mistakes. They are invitations.

Craft of Heart and Hearth is coming to Southern Realm Festival.
I’ll be bringing a collection of handmade medicine drums, rattles, feather adornments, smudge wands and ceremonial pieces — each made slowly, by hand, with its own character and story.

Sometimes a place opens at exactly the right moment.

Two places have unexpectedly become available for our Spirit Quest Retreat, beginning next Thursday evening, 13 August, at Heartland Meadows.

This is an invitation to step away from the noise of everyday life, return to yourself and spend meaningful time in ceremony, reflection and connection with the land.

Everything is already prepared. You only need to feel the call and be willing to say yes.

This is not about escaping your life. It is about creating enough quiet to hear yourself again, reconnect with your inner knowing and return to everyday life carrying something real with you.

It may suit someone who has been feeling stretched, disconnected, at a crossroads or simply aware that it is time to make space for themselves.
