Why do we use Compex post injury / surgery?
Severe injuries and surgeries can cause muscular atrophy, due to a disturbance to neurological pathways that stimulate muscle activation. Low intensity activity is generally what is most reasonable in the early stages at least, to avoid overload and inflammation at the recovering site. This is not always enough to spark appropriate change in the muscle fibres - which is needed to build size and strength. Here, we need to look to increase neural drive; essentially stimulus into the area. Compex is one device option to do just that.
This is slightly different to the process that occurs when a muscle is rested / unused alone. Muscle hypertrophy can occur more ‘easily’ without limitations to acitivity load or intensity and when the neural pathways aren’t as heavily affected.
