Lateral hip pain is one of the most common complaints we see in the clinic - especially in runners, active adults, and women over 40.

Many people are told they have “hip bursitis,” but in reality, a large percentage of these cases are actually related to irritation of the gluteal tendons. While the symptoms can overlap, the diagnosis — and therefore the treatment approach — can look quite different.

Our latest blog by Physio Glyn .a breaks down the differentiating factors between hip bursitis and glute tendon pain with regard to pain behaviour, testing markers and response to loading.

Who’s in your corner?

In some cases, injuries can carry an element of uncertainty. The right network of clinicians can put you at ease, as you navigate the patience needed before you know you’re ready to be back at work, activity or sport.

MCL Stress test

After injury to the knee, our physios use a ‘valgus stress’ or MCL stress test when appropriate to assess for involvement of the MCL ligament.

By gently applying specific force along the fibers of the ligament (with the knee straight, and then in a little bend) we gain an insight into the degree of sprain or tear.

This information helps us to determine the need for imaging, and referral to specialists for opinion on optimal management.

When required to aid healing and regain of stability, we use range of motion braces to allow continued linear movement at the knee while removing potential for the valgus force that created the injury in the first place.

We have years of experience managing MCL injuries and have quick connection to expert opinion from local specialists.

Chances are you know someone who has recently had a stress fracture put a halt on their training.

Here we break down the anatomy, causes of overload, management & prevention strategies for stress fractures of the Navicular - one of the small but important bones in the foot 👟👟

Increasing your running ahead of an upcoming event doesn’t have to result in pain and weeks of hobbling after (or on you way to) the finish line. Considered programming, both in your running shoes and in the gym, amongst other factors can avoid injury all together.

We often see cases of elbow pain or instability following throwing or diving / contact injuries.

To complement the physio treatment and rehab program, we use strapping to support the joint, reduce pain and get clients back to training and competition.

Through the winter sports season, book a 15 min strapping appointment with any Physio at Narrabeen or Cromer!

That annoying pain at the front of your knee?

Could be patellar tendon pain (often called jumper’s knee).

We see this a lot in the clinic in running and jumping sports. The important detail - it’s not always just inflammation. It’s a tendon that’s been asked to do more than it’s prepared for. That’s why we don’t just prescribe rest here at Motus HP.

On our website is a full breakdown of the common causes & what actually works to fix it.
