What colour are your emotions? šØ
One of the things I love about art therapy is that it helps us bring what is happening inside to the outside. Thoughts, emotions, memories, and experiences that can feel tangled up in our minds suddenly have a place to land ā on the page.
This art therapy directive invited me to explore and name my emotions, then give each one a colour. What colour is contentment? What shade is disappointment? If excitement had a palette, what would it look like?
As I worked, I was reminded that we rarely experience just one emotion at a time. We can feel relieved and disappointed, excited and anxious, content and longing ā all simultaneously. Emotions are rarely neat or singular; they exist in layers.
Drawing these faces wasnāt about artistic skill or creating a perfect portrait. It was about slowing down, reflecting, and giving each feeling space to be seen. Interestingly, as I drew the expressions, it felt as though each emotion had its own voice and story to tell.
So much of our emotional life can stay trapped in repetitive thought patterns, rumination, or the endless scroll of our minds. Creative expression offers another pathway ā one that invites curiosity rather than judgement.
How have your emotions been lately?
If you were to give each feeling a colour, what would they be? ššØ
