We wanted to take a moment to shine a light on the dedicated people who may not always be seen, but who play an essential role behind the scenes in supporting the care and wellbeing of our residents.

Our residents at Denman MPS receive care, not only from nursing, HSS and medical staff, but from allied health professionals too. These health professionals combine to make a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care that addresses the specific needs of each resident.

Multidisciplinary teams are used to treat the resident, rather than just a condition, resulting in improved outcomes and better health results.

We are grateful for the input and support of our allied health professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech therapists, social workers, palliative care and hospital pharmacist whose services assist in the overall wellbeing of those who call Denman MPS home. 😀

This week has certainly been a busy and exciting one across the board here at our facility.

At the beginning of the week, we had a very friendly visitor wander into our grounds. Taking full advantage of the special moment, our residents enjoyed some safe cuddles and plenty of smiles before he was returned to the paddock across the road.

A huge congratulations to Neville and Barbara Smith, who celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary with a beautiful morning tea surrounded by friends and staff. What an incredible milestone and a wonderful celebration of love and commitment.

State of Origin was certainly a cracker of a night, with residents thoroughly enjoying the game.

There was also plenty of interest in watching the end of the Liddell Power Station era, bringing back many memories and conversations about its long history and significance over the years.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such generous organisations within our town. Denman & District Men's Shed Inc. members Denis Chandler, Rod Johnson and Barry Sowter are pictured with their latest donation — a specialised shower chair valued at over $4,000.
The chair was proudly purchased by the Denman and District Men’s Shed using funds raised through their ongoing can and bottle recycling efforts, supported by our wonderful local community. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and continued support.

You may have heard in the news that all facilities within Hunter New England Health District have now transitioned to the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) system. This is a huge milestone as we are part of the largest health district in NSW. Over the coming months/year’s more health districts will transition to the new system. Our staff have been working very hard over the past few months completing training and preparing for the transition, with the system officially going live this week.
As with any new system, practice makes perfect, and we know this change will provide long-term benefits for staff, residents, patients and the wider NSW community.

A big thank you also goes to our manager for taking extra care of everyone on a very busy day by treating staff to some delicious food from Denman RSL Club.

We have finished off the week with some scrumptious pizzas from The Denman Hotel after the lovely wet weather unfortunately hindered our planned outing for today. While plans may have changed, it was still a wonderful way to end another busy week.

We’ve had a busy and exciting week!

We enjoyed a fun game of bingo, welcomed visits from our friendly family companion Lucy, and then travelled the globe to beautiful Saint Helena. Did you know this remote island is one of the most isolated places in the world and was famously where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled? It’s also home to the unique Saint Helena ebony plant, once thought to be extinct!

We finished off the week with a wonderful visit from our friends at Denman Public School, who spent the morning with us they are such great company.

Enjoy your weekend 😀

This week, we brought back a much-loved classic and enjoyed making delicious homemade fritters in three tasty flavours, chicken, tuna, and vegetable. Everyone had a wonderful time preparing and enjoying them alongside some fresh salad. Our residents did an amazing job.

Next month, we are planning to make some yummy sweet treats, so stay tuned!

We were also delighted to welcome our wonderful friends from Denman Children's Centre for another special visit. As always, it was heartwarming to see the halls filled with laughter, conversation, and singing. These visits continue to bring so much joy to everyone involved. They created under the sea artwork, and the results look absolutely amazing. The creativity on display have truly brightened our space.

Have a great weekend! 🐠đŸŒș🌞

Gabon is one of the most forested countries in the world, with up to 90% of its land covered by rainforest in the Congo Basin. This makes it a hotspot for biodiversity, home to forest elephants, gorillas, and chimpanzees. Its national parks—like Loango National Park—are especially unique, where wildlife such as elephants and hippos can sometimes be seen walking along the beach. Gabon has also taken major steps in conservation, setting aside about 11% of its land as protected national parks.

Despite its small population of around 2 million, Gabon is relatively wealthy due to oil production. The capital, Libreville, was founded by freed slaves, and the country still reflects strong French influence from its colonial past, with French as the official language. Gabon lies on the equator, giving it a hot, humid climate year-round, and its culture includes spiritual traditions like Bwiti, known for its use of the iboga plant. On our armchair travel adventure this round, we enjoyed Poulet FumĂ© au Nyembwe, a rich, smoky chicken dish cooked in palm nut sauce that’s a staple of local cuisine.

We also enjoyed a visit from Denman Public School, where the Year 3 students spent time reading books and drawing flowers together, adding their creative touches to the artwork.

We are now coming into flu season and both residents and staff are taking care of their health by receiving their flu vaccines. As in previous years, staff, visitors etc need to have had a flu vaccine in order to enter any Residential Aged Care Facility from 1st June 2026 until 30th September 2026.

From 1st June, you will be required to show proof of vaccination on entry to Denman Residential Aged Care Facility.

Children are exempt.

We all appreciate your understanding as the wellbeing of our residents are our upmost priority.

Over the past week, we enjoyed our cooking day, where we prepared delicious nachos together. It is always fun creating something tasty to share with everyone.

We also visited the local pub, where residents enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, a lovely meal, and great company. The short stroll to The Denman Hotel added to the enjoyment of the day.

As part of our intergenerational programme with St Joseph's Primary School, Denman, residents had the opportunity to share one of their favourite games with the students. It was a wonderful morning, and the children thoroughly enjoyed learning and playing the game. The interaction between students and residents gives a sense of connection and fosters mutual enjoyment, promoting social engagement and wellbeing for all.

We were delighted to begin the Easter long weekend with a wonderful luncheon shared in great company.

A sincere thank you to everyone in our community who supported the Hospital Auxiliary raffle. Congratulations to our lucky winners—June Chapman, who took out first prize, and Lis Spalding, our second prize recipient.

Wishing you all a joyful and relaxing Easter. May your weekend be filled with happiness, and may the Easter Bunny—or perhaps even an Easter duckling—bring a little extra seasonal cheer đŸŁđŸ„đŸŁđŸ„

Did you know that Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere, yet it’s packed with history, beauty, and unique experiences?

We “visited” there last week for armchair travel. This twin-island nation, formed by volcanic landscapes, is home to a scenic railway that once carried sugar cane and now offers breathtaking views for visitors.

It became independent in 1983 but still shares ties with the British monarchy as part of the Commonwealth. Cricket is a huge part of local culture, and the islands have contributed talent to the West Indies team. Fun fact—there are actually more green vervet monkeys than people living there!

We enjoyed Brown Stewed Chicken with braised cabbage and a yummy cinnamon coconut pudding.

Nevis, the quieter of the two islands, is also the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. With its laid-back vibe, rich heritage, and stunning scenery, it’s truly one of the Caribbean’s hidden gems

From the surf to the still waters of Lake St Clair, yesterday’s journey into the countryside was nothing short of memorable.

Our residents enjoyed a beautiful day surrounded by nature, complete with a relaxed BBQ and the peaceful backdrop of the lake.

A sincere thank you to Paul from Robin Hood Bar & Bistro Jerrys Plains, whose local knowledge guided us along scenic, lesser-known roads—reminding us that sometimes the journey itself is just as meaningful as the destination.

For many of our residents, these landscapes hold deep personal significance. As we travelled, stories of years gone by were shared with warmth and nostalgia—memories of long days spent tending vineyards, family-owned properties that have evolved over time, weekend gatherings across old bridges, and early mornings on dairy farms where hard work began before sunrise. Each story offered a glimpse into lives rich with experience, resilience, and community.

Moments like these are truly special. Creating the time and space for our residents to reconnect with their past is a privilege, and being entrusted with their stories is something we deeply value.

It was a day filled with connection, reflection, and appreciation
