🌿 The Australian movement guidelines are in… and the good news is every move counts! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

The updated Australian 24-hour Movement Guidelines remind us that health isn't just about hitting the gym – it's also about moving more throughout the day, sitting less, and getting enough sleep.

💡 One easy takeaway: Aim for several hours of light physical activity each day. Think walking the dog along Lights Beach, gardening, surfing, swimming, doing Parkrun or parking a little further away at IGA. It all adds up!

So, if you've been looking for a reason to take that extra lap around the office or wander through the garden, consider this your official prescription. 😉🌼

Move more. Sit less. Feel better.

📣 New at Denmark Family Practice: Self Check-In! 📣

We’ve got something new in the waiting room… and don’t worry, it’s not a robot version of Sarah (we checked, she’s irreplaceable).

You can now check yourself in at our new self check-in screen!
✅ Quick
✅ Easy
✅ And best of all… no need to recite your date of birth out loud while Sarah gives you that “I already know this” look 😄

Before anyone panics — Sarah isn’t going anywhere! We’ve just given her a little helper to make life easier (and to give her a break from hearing birthdays all day long).

If you’re tech-savvy or just feeling independent, give the self check-in a go next time you visit.

If you’d rather stick with a friendly face and a chat, Sarah (and the team) are still right there to check you in the usual way.

So it’s your choice:
👩‍💻 Check yourself in like a pro
👋 Or say hi to Sarah and check in the classic way

Either way — we’re here to help and keep things running smoothly!

🎉 Celebrating Sarah Bondini 🎉

We’d like to take a moment to recognise someone very special here at Denmark Family Practice — Sarah Bondini.

With an incredible 18 years at the practice, Sarah is our longest-serving team member, having supported both our patients and staff through many years of change — even outlasting the previous ownership. Her experience, knowledge, and warm, welcoming presence at reception make a real difference to everyone who walks through our doors.

Beyond her role here, Sarah is also an exceptionally talented artist and the proud owner of the Riverfront Gallery, a beautiful local art space here in Denmark. Her ability to balance her work at the practice with running her own creative business is truly inspiring, and a wonderful reflection of the vibrant community we’re part of.

Sarah, thank you for your dedication, your kindness, and everything you bring to our team — we are so fortunate to have you!

If you see her around, make sure to say hello — and don’t forget to check out her amazing work at Riverfront Gallery!

Gentlemen — laugh now, act now: a 15‑minute check can stop a punchline from becoming a problem. Book a men’s health check this Men’s Health Week, 15-21 June 2026.

Quick facts

About 40% of the disease burden in Australian men is preventable by reducing known risk factors.

Around 79% of Australian men aged 15+ saw a GP in the last 12 months, but many still delay care for worrying symptoms.

A cheeky but serious nudge
Think of a check‑up like servicing your favourite ute: quick, practical, and cheaper than a tow truck. A 15‑minute men’s health check can spot high blood pressure, high cholesterol, blood sugar issues or mental‑health concerns before they get dramatic. Prevention beats bravado.

Book now
Call reception or book online to grab a quick slot this Men’s Health Week. It’s fast, useful and might be the best decision you make all year.

Final line (serious): being funny about it is fine; ignoring it isn’t. Make the call today.

🚑 First Responders Day – 10 June 💙

Today, we pause to recognise and thank the incredible first responders who support our community every day.

Here in Denmark, we’re especially fortunate. Many of our doctors work in the Denmark Hospital Emergency Department, where we regularly rely on the dedication and skill of our local St John Ambulance volunteers. While they give their time freely, there is nothing “voluntary” about the professionalism, care, and calm they bring to every emergency.

These volunteers are often the first faces people see on what may be one of the worst days of their lives—and they show up with compassion, expertise, and a willingness to go above and beyond.

On a personal note, our team has experienced this care firsthand. After a serious tractor accident 18 months ago, the support from St John Ambulance was not just appreciated—it was vital. It’s a powerful reminder that behind every siren is a team of people ready to help, no matter the situation.

So today, we say a heartfelt thank you to all first responders—especially our local St John Ambulance volunteers. You are an essential part of our community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
💙🚑

If you see a volunteer around town today, give them a wave (or maybe even a coffee!)—they’ve certainly earned it

🌧️ WA Day Weather Report:
The storm has officially decided to celebrate the long weekend harder than any of us.

Denmark Family Practice is closed today for the WA Day public holiday, so please stay warm, stay dry, and avoid being blown into the neighbour’s yard.

If you’d like to book an appointment for later in the week (when the wind has hopefully calmed down), you can hop onto HotDoc and book online anytime.

And a reminder for our community: we keep a couple of same‑day sick appointments aside each day. These can only be booked by calling us on the day, so keep that in mind if you wake up feeling under the weather — or if the weather has literally hit you.

Stay safe out there, Denmark. This storm means business.

🌿 Meet Dr Emma Dekkar‑Zangari — our newest GP (and unofficial in‑house Italian cooking consultant)! 🇮🇹🍝

If you’ve visited the practice over the past few months, you may have already met Dr Emma Dekkar‑Zangari — but it’s time for a proper introduction.

Emma joined Denmark Family Practice three months ago and has been an absolute delight from day one. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame (Fremantle) in 2023 and has since worked across rural WA and Midland Hospital, gaining experience in just about everything a GP could hope to see. She brings a calm, thoughtful approach to medicine and a genuine passion for long‑term patient care.

Her special interests include:
• Preventative & lifestyle medicine
• Women’s health
• Children’s health
• Helping patients take proactive steps toward better wellbeing

But Emma isn’t just a fantastic doctor — she also comes with serious Italian heritage credentials. Her dad runs an olive farm, she grew up harvesting olives for extra virgin olive oil, and yes… her cooking is every bit as good as you’re imagining. Rumour has it she makes a pasta sauce so good it could resolve international conflict.

She’s also a keen gardener, a lover of seasonal produce, and someone who’s happiest outdoors — hiking, growing food, or experimenting with sustainable living.

So if you see her around the practice (or around town), please give her a warm Denmark welcome. And if you’re lucky, she might even share a tip or two for perfecting your Italian cooking — though we can’t promise she’ll hand over the family secrets.

Welcome, Emma — we’re so glad to have you on the team!

🔥 National Volunteer Week – Celebrating Our Local Heroes 🔥
In a small community like ours, volunteers are the heartbeat that keeps everything going ❤️
This National Volunteer Week, we want to give a special shoutout to someone you might recognise from our front desk… 👀
When Lina isn’t welcoming you at Denmark Family Practice with a smile, she’s out with the Denmark Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service 🚒

Yes – fighting fires, responding to emergencies, and even helping rescue people stuck under tractors (just another day in Denmark 😅).

And as if that wasn’t impressive enough... Lina is also a qualified doctor from Mexico, currently working towards her AMC exams to practise medicine here in Australia 🇦🇺

So let’s recap:
👉 Receptionist
👉 Firefighter
👉 Rescue hero
👉 Doctor

Honestly, we’re starting to wonder if there’s anything she can’t do… 🤔

Lina is a perfect example of the incredible generosity, dedication, and spirit of volunteers in our community. We’re so lucky to have people like her – both at our clinic and in Denmark more broadly.

If you see Lina around this week, make sure to say thanks (but don’t be surprised if she modestly shrugs it off 😉).

👏 Happy National Volunteer Week to all our amazing volunteers – we couldn’t do it without you!

🌦️ From Forecasts to Family Care – Meet Dr Dan! 🌦️

Did you know we have a doctor on our team who’s worked… in Antarctica? ❄️

Before becoming a GP, Dr Dan Laban was a meteorologist – yes, an actual weatherman – even braving the extremes of Antarctica! These days, he’s swapped forecasting cold fronts for helping patients stay in good health (although we’re pretty sure he can still predict a storm better than most... 😉).

Dr Dan brings a calm, thoughtful approach to medicine and is passionate about:
✅ Preventive care
✅ Managing chronic conditions
✅ Supporting long-term health for the whole family

He might be one of the quieter members of our team, but patients quickly discover how kind, thorough, and attentive he is. If you’re looking for a GP who listens, cares, and takes the time to get things right – Dr Dan is your man.

📍 He’s currently accepting new patients – come say hello!

(And feel free to ask him about the Antarctic weather… we hear it’s a cool story 😄)
