🩺 Are You Looking for the Best Job in Nursing? 🩺

Do you dream of saying goodbye to shift work?

Would you rather spend your weekends enjoying life than working nights?

Are you tired of hospital bureaucracy and being the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, instead of helping build the fence at the top?

And most importantly... do you want to be as cool as the nurses in the photo? 😎

If you answered yes, keep reading.

Denmark Family Practice is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Casual Practice Nurse to join our friendly team for 2 days per week, with the potential to expand to 3 days per week as our practice continues to grow.

As we expand our services and welcome more doctors, we are looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and values building strong relationships with patients. Our nurses are an integral part of what we do. They play an active role in patient care, often running their own clinics and helping deliver the holistic, preventative care that we are proud to provide.

βœ… No shift work
βœ… Supportive team environment
βœ… Meaningful patient relationships
βœ… Opportunities to grow with the practice
βœ… Beautiful Denmark location

If you're interested, please drop your resume in to Kerry, our Practice Manager.

Want to know more about the role? Have a chat with Shelley. We're pretty sure you already know her... everybody does! 😊

Come and join a team that genuinely enjoys coming to work each day.

🌿 Asthma Week 2026 🌿

Did you know that asthma treatment guidelines have changed?

For most adults and adolescents with mild asthma, Ventolin (salbutamol) alone is no longer recommended as a reliever treatment. Research has shown that relying on a blue reliever puffer alone can increase the risk of serious asthma flare-ups.

Because asthma management recommendations have changed, now is a great time to review your asthma treatment and make sure you have an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan.

βœ… Review your symptoms
βœ… Check your inhaler technique
βœ… Update your medications if needed
βœ… Ensure you have a current Asthma Action Plan

If you have asthma, we encourage you to book an appointment with one of our GPs to review your asthma management and discuss whether your current treatment is still the best option for you.

πŸ“ž Contact Denmark Family Practice to arrange your asthma review.

Every patient has a story, and we'd love to help share yours.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Australia's professional body for specialist GPs, is collecting patient stories to showcase the difference general practitioners make in the lives of individuals, families and communities across the country.

At Denmark Family Practice, we are privileged to be part of our patients' healthcare journeys, and we know that behind every consultation is a unique story of care, support and connection.

If your GP has made a positive difference in your life, we encourage you to consider sharing your story as part of this important campaign and help highlight the value of general practice in our community.

❀️ Every story matters.

Congratulations to Dr Ramya Raman on her election as President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)! πŸŽ‰

The RACGP is Australia's peak professional body for general practitioners. It plays a vital role in setting standards for GP training, supporting quality patient care, advocating for the profession, and helping shape the future of primary healthcare across the country. As an RACGP-accredited training practice, Denmark Family Practice is proud to contribute to training the next generation of GPs.

Strong leadership at the RACGP is important because the decisions and advocacy of the College influence how future GPs are trained, how general practice is supported, and ultimately the care our communities receive.

On a personal note, Dr Raman visited Denmark Family Practice in May this year. We were impressed by the time she took to listen, engage with our team, and understand the unique opportunities and challenges faced by regional general practices. Her passion for general practice and commitment to patients were evident throughout her visit.

We wish Dr Raman every success as she takes on this important leadership role and look forward to seeing the positive impact of her presidency on general practice and the communities we serve.

πŸ‘ Congratulations, Ramya!

The official symbols of modern youth?

A phone, 127 unread messages, school assignments, sport commitments... and not nearly enough sleep!

This International Youth Day, we're celebrating the amazing young people of Denmark and recognising that growing up can be exciting, challenging, rewarding and sometimes downright confusing.

At Denmark Family Practice, supporting young people's health is something we're especially passionate about. We now provide a Monday morning clinic at Denmark Senior High School, helping students access healthcare close to where they learn.

Our youth-friendly team includes Dr Dan, Dr Emma, Dr Hannah, Dr Bretto and Dr Alex, all of whom have a particular interest in child and adolescent health.

βœ… Physical health βœ… Mental health βœ… Sexual health βœ… General wellbeing βœ… Support when life gets a bit complicated

And because access matters:

πŸ’™ We bulk bill all young people up to the age of 20.

To all the young people in our community: we see you, we're proud of you, and we're here for you.

Happy International Youth Day!

Denmark Family Practice is proud to support the Palmerston Outreach Program by providing nursing support for this important initiative. Working together with Palmerston and the Denmark Community Foundation, we hope to improve access to healthcare and support for people experiencing homelessness in our community. We thank all partners and funders involved in making this much-needed service available in Denmark.

After-hours primary care for homeless people in Albany is set to continue after funding to maintain the Homelessness Access Program was confirmed.

🚨 New Doctor Alert! 🚨

Please help us welcome Dr Hannah Dodd to Denmark Family Practice!

Dr Hannah arrived this week and has already identified some of Denmark's key attractions:

βœ… Stunning beaches
βœ… Incredible wildlife
βœ… Spectacular sunsets
βœ… Excellent wineries

As a keen reader, she's particularly excited about summer so she can spend her days enjoying a good book on one of our beautiful local beaches.

She's also a passionate gardener, although her relationship with Perth plants could best be described as "complicated." Most of them failed to thrive despite her best efforts, so she's hoping Denmark's flowers will be a little more cooperative. 🌼

When she's not at work, you'll find her walking, chasing sunsets, garden planning, and undertaking the enormous responsibility of sampling her way through the Great Southern wine region. Someone has to do it! 🍷

Welcome to Denmark, Dr Hannah. We think you'll fit right in.

Lots of coughs and colds around Denmark at the moment!

The good news is that most viral infections will improve on their own with time and don't require antibiotics or a doctor's appointment.

βœ… Things you can do at home: β€’ Get plenty of rest β€’ Stay well hydrated β€’ Take paracetamol or ibuprofen (if safe for you) for pain, fever and headaches β€’ Use honey (for adults and children over 12 months) to help soothe a cough β€’ Avoid smoking and va**ng while unwell

It's quite common for: β€’ A sore throat to last up to a week β€’ Fevers to last several days β€’ A cough to linger for 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer

🚩 You should seek medical review if you have: β€’ Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath β€’ Chest pain β€’ High fevers that are persistent or worsening β€’ Symptoms that are getting worse rather than improving β€’ Severe dehydration (unable to keep fluids down, dizziness, passing very little urine) β€’ Coughing up blood β€’ Significant worsening of an existing health condition

πŸ‘Ά Children should be reviewed if they: β€’ Have difficulty breathing β€’ Are unusually sleepy, floppy or difficult to wake β€’ Are not drinking fluids β€’ Have fewer wet nappies than normal β€’ Have a fever in an infant under 3 months of age β€’ Cause you significant concern as a parent

⚠️ Some people should seek medical advice earlier, including: β€’ Infants and very young children β€’ People over 65 β€’ Pregnant women β€’ People with weakened immune systems β€’ People with significant heart, lung or kidney disease

Remember, most coughs and colds are unpleasant but self-limiting. Sometimes the best medicine really is rest, fluids, a comfortable couch and a bit of patience.

Stay well Denmark! ❀️
