Running out of scripts this winter? 💊

As we head into the colder months, it’s a good time to make sure your repeat prescriptions are up to date.

Getting organised early can help you avoid last-minute stress, especially during busier periods when appointments may be more limited.

If you take regular medication, consider checking:
• Do you have enough repeats?
• When is your next review due?

You may also be able to request repeat prescriptions online, making it even easier to stay on top of your medications.

RSV Vaccine Clinics Available Now 🤧

Our practice is now offering RSV vaccination clinics for eligible patients.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a highly contagious virus that affects the airways and lungs. While it often causes mild cold-like symptoms, it can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and breathing difficulties in older adults.

The RSV vaccine is FREE for patients aged 75 years and over.

Infants born between 1 October 2025 and 31 March 2026 are also eligible for RSV immunisation and should make an appointment outside of clinic times.

To book an appointment, please contact our reception team on 98484111 or follow the link below:

Why does illness seem more common in winter? ❄️

During the colder months, a few factors can make us more vulnerable to getting sick.

We tend to spend more time indoors and in close contact with others, which allows viruses like the flu to spread more easily. Cooler weather can also impact how well our immune system responds, making it harder for the body to fight off infections.

In addition, simple things like reduced sunlight, changes in routine, and lower activity levels can all contribute to feeling run down.

Taking small steps can make a big difference:
• Stay up to date with vaccinations
• Wash your hands regularly
• Maintain a balanced diet
• Keep active where possible
• Don’t ignore ongoing symptoms

If you’re feeling unwell or have concerns about your health this winter, it’s always best to check in with your GP.

Not sure if it’s a cold or the flu? 🤧

While they can feel similar, there are a few key differences.

A common cold usually comes on gradually and may include a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, a mild sore throat, and mild fatigue. Fevers are uncommon.

The flu (influenza) tends to come on suddenly and can feel much more severe. Symptoms often include fever and chills, body aches, headache, fatigue, and a dry cough.

The biggest difference is how quickly it hits — and how strongly.

You should see a GP if you experience:
• A fever lasting more than 3 days
• Shortness of breath
• Chest pain
• Severe fatigue
• Symptoms that are getting worse

If you’re ever unsure, it’s always best to check in 💙

Finding yourself getting sick more often lately?

As we move into the cooler months, it’s common to see an increase in colds, flu, and other infections — but frequent illness can sometimes be a sign your body needs extra support.

Common contributing factors include:
• Poor sleep
• Ongoing stress
• Low iron or vitamin levels
• Underlying health conditions

Taking simple steps like getting enough rest, maintaining a balanced diet, and staying up to date with vaccinations can make a difference.

If you feel like you’re getting sick more often than usual, it may be worth discussing with your GP.

Shortness of breath isn’t always just “being unfit.”

While it can be normal after exercise, ongoing or unexpected breathlessness may indicate an underlying issue that should be assessed.

This can include:
• Asthma or respiratory conditions
• Heart-related concerns
• Anxiety or stress
• Infections

If you notice shortness of breath during everyday activities, or if it feels different to usual, it’s important to have it checked.

Early assessment can help identify the cause and provide appropriate management.

Feeling tired all the time isn’t something you should ignore.😴

Ongoing fatigue is often put down to being “busy” — but it can sometimes be a sign that something else is going on.

Common causes can include:
• Iron deficiency
• Thyroid imbalances
• Poor sleep quality
• Stress or mental health concerns

A simple check-up and some basic tests can help identify what’s behind it.

If you’ve been feeling run down for a while, it may be worth having a chat with your GP.
