Bayview Haven has packed plenty into the past few weeks, with residents keeping busy with outings, visitors and activities around the home.

Everyone got together for The Cuppa for Cancer afternoon, and local TAFE students have also been visiting as part of an assignment where they planned and ran activities with residents. Residents shared stories and compared school life then and now. The famous lolly trolley also made its big return and settled back in quite easily!

Some of the ladies also headed out for a browse through a local craft and clothing display store and capped off the afternoon with coffee and cake.

Social Care Coordinator Kellie said, “The best part is seeing everyone get involved in different ways. Some love getting out and about, others enjoy staying in and chatting with visitors. The lolly trolley has probably created the most excitement of all.”

Volunteer Christina, and her Border Collie Ruby, have only been visiting Tyler Village for a few weeks, but you’d think they’d been part of the home forever 🥰

Residents and staff both look forward to their regular visits, and Ruby has quickly worked out exactly where to go for the most pats, attention and treats. 🐾

🎂 Gladys – a Pub, a Pharmacy and 100 Years

Ingham Lodge in Queensland is celebrating a very special milestone, welcoming Gladys as the newest member of the home's exclusive 100 Club.

Born in 1926, Gladys has spent a lifetime connected to the Ingham community. The second of five children, she was born at the family home in Anne Street to Rupert and Nellie, and grew up alongside her siblings Isabel, Lila, Rupert and Alan. Her father was a local grocer and a familiar face around town, making the family well known throughout the district.

Gladys grew up as part of Ingham's thriving Chinese community, at a time when many local businesses were owned and run by families of Chinese descent. Her family's story became closely tied to the town itself, with brother Rupert later becoming well known through the historic Lee's Hotel, while Gladys built a reputation of her own running a pharmacy just a few doors away. Their lives were woven into some of Ingham's best-known local stories, including a connection to the famous tale behind A Pub With No Beer.

🎉 We now have 10,000 people following along with life across Respect. That’s a fair crowd!

This page has always been about sharing the stories of our residents - the birthdays, outings, milestones, friendships and fun moments that happen across our homes.

All of us at Respect, along with our residents, want to say a big thank you for following and showing your support for our community. It’s such a great way to keep family and friends connected to life in our homes, no matter where they are.

Here’s a photo of some of our residents at Eliza Purton helping us celebrate 🥳

The Teddy Bear That Came Home From War 🧸

There were teddy bears everywhere for the Biggest Afternoon Tea at Costa House the other week! Residents were invited to bring along their oldest, best dressed and most-loved bears for a very serious round of judging. Although not every “bear” exactly followed the brief… one resident rocked up with a dog in a bear mask, another brought along a pony. Both still made the comp feel perfectly reasonable.

Awards were given out to the Cutest Bear and Sportiest Bear, but the one with all eyes on it was a 75-year-old teddy named Bruce (after former RSL President Bruce Ruxton), belonging to Lorraine. And funnily enough, “all eyes” is pretty fitting. Over the years the koala had lost its original set, so our Social Care Coordinator Maria stitched on some new ones before the big day 😊

The teddy was brought back from the war as a gift for her when she was a little girl, and still sits proudly by her side all these years later.

Everyone spent the afternoon treating themselves to teddy bear biscuits, cakes, party pies and they held raffles raising money for the Cancer Council. A fantastic day, well done to everyone who helped plan this event.
