In today's paper, the Sunday Age, page 8, and front page of the digital version, I am part of an incredible crew of women trying to create change to birth trauma and injuries.
I'm honoured to be part of this group, specifically alongside RANZCOG, Birth Trauma Australia, COPE and others who are all *pushing for change*.
Credit to Senior Reporter Wendy Tuohy who for the second time has captured my purpose and my words well, and visual journalist Ruby Alexander for capturing me.
It's been 15 years since the birth-day that changed our lives, and I still feel strongly to keep chipping away to invoke change. We are stronger together, lets keep going.

My favourite line that I repeat to myself often is poignant today, "we didnt come this far, to come this far".

I see this as an award for "keeping families together" through some exceptionally difficult, unexpected, terribly dark times. Helping them come out the other side, together, is such a gift.

I liken my own trauma to a light at the end of the longest, darkest tunnel...but there I stand, flashing a light, waving my arms and gently calling you forward. I walked that deep-dark-LOOOONNNNGGGG-tunnel too - you can make it out. Please reach out for help.

I see clients from all over Australia (& of course not only birth trauma families, I see all couples 🥰) so please reach out.

Online all Wednesday's, Thursday's in 📍Plenty at and Friday's in📍 Mernda at United Minds. Online Wed/Thu evenings & in person late Friday's.

BOOK on my website www.blueheartscounselling.com.au on the home page "request an appointment" and I'll call you back for a FREE 15min chat.

Today I presented as a guest on a panel as a "Consumer with lived experience" for a roundtable discussion on The Cost of Birth Trauma.

Held at RANZCOG (Royal Aust & NZ College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) head office in Melbourne in conjunction with Peak body for birth-related trauma. .

I shared parts of my story to a room full of government officials, researchers, OB/GYNs, midwives, physios, and more!! - these people are change makers.

I tried my best to represent myself, my family, others affected by birth trauma that haven't yet found their voice and to be honest about the Cost. It's not only a financial cost - its the physical, psychological, familial, societal costs all enmeshed.

Like all things, more funding is needed to really make a difference so it's a 'watch this space'.

Fingers crossed.

We often are so used to ("conditioned") to feel like we are responsible for everyone and everything - especially as parents the lines are often blurred with looking after everyone's needs and forgetting that we too need time, compassion, rest, nurturing, connection, socialising, fun, laughs and excitement. Just remember that history tells us that children don't remember how clean the house was... they remember how the house felt - was it calm, happy? was it a nice place to return to after school? Was there food in the fridge and what snacks were in the pantry? Its' ok to drop the load of responsibilities, share it around, and it's ok if it's far from perfect. Who said it had to be perfect? Not me!
Let's embrace rest and recharge, to be better versions of ourselves who can show up for our loved ones (and ourselves) without pressure, guilt or over-committing. Let's be calm and present, firstly for ourselves, and let that ripple through to the whole family unit.

You cannot be the blanket to keep everyone warm.

Who said it's a race?
Not me. Not anyone who has walked the path of healing.
There's no first prize and there's absolutely no reward in ignoring yourSELF pushing past discomfort.

If you are in the hermit stage, then gentle rest is ok.
If you aren't yet daring to go out alone, that's ok.
If you feel overwhelmed by showering, do it another day.
If you can only make it from bed to couch - it's fine!

Rome was not built in a day, the truth is... there is no timeline, we are just not harming ourselves in order to feel better. That's not right.

We lead with love for ourselves.
We show ourselves compassion (...for all we have been through)
We show kindness (...unto ourselves!)
We honour ourselves with allowing the truth of our feelings.

No, no, it was never a race.
