Our teams last paddle before most of our crew head off to France!
In just a few days, a full team of Pink Phoenixes will be heading to France for the 2026 IBCPC Participatory Dragon Boat Festival, France a global celebration bringing together breast cancer survivor dragon boat teams from all around the world.

It’s about so much more than racing. It’s connection, friendship, strength, celebration and showing what’s possible after breast cancer.

We really enjoyed a last paddle together with our “Grounded Phoenixes” who will be flying the flag back here in Melbourne . Grateful to our wonderful Kate who is organising some fun opportunities for our crew.

We were thrilled to welcome Janine’s pal Natasha all the way from northern NSW. Celebrating the end of treatment with a paddle under sunny skies in Melbourne!! Glad to have you on board- you were terrific and we hope you can connect with Dragons Abreast Illawarra when you’re ready!

Wednesday warriors night paddling

18 paddlers and one sweep on board for our last Wednesday night paddle before France and the Carrum regatta!! 🇫🇷

A beautiful winters evening, great company and a warm welcome to our pink paddling visitors Terri from Hope Floats in the USA and Shawna from Abreast in a Boat with fortitude in Canada! Wonderful to see our gorgeous dragon pass paddler Kristy back in the boat too! Such a fabulous night - the Bolte Bridge lit up in pink Is always heartwarming for us!
Great job by our strokes Astrid and Stacey! 👏👏👏
Bon voyage and farewell to our paddlers heading off to France.

There’s something special about paddling on a Wednesday night with the city glowing around you.
It’s quiet, and has an atmosphere all its own.
19 phoenix’s took to the harbour- a great turnout as the weather looked to be wet- but as usual- the clouds disappeared just for us!

Making the most of every paddle before many of our crew members head off to France.

The countdown is on, and while we’re excited for the adventure ahead, there’s nowhere we’d rather be than on the water with this amazing team.
Kris did a mighty job sweeping the session- great to see her back on the back of the boat! Kaylene also continued her sweeps practice- fantastic work with a full boat!
Thanks to Sue P and Nikki for organising and running the Erg machines for our members who are currently benchmarking for the Vic state team tryouts! We are so grateful to you for your experience

We welcomed Shawna from Abreast In A Boat with fortitude who is visiting Melbourne from Canada for a paddle with us! Abreast in a boat is the first Breast Cancer survivor dragon boat team in the world! We were honoured to have a member paddling with us in the other side of the world!

A Huge thanks to our volunteer on the day Chris Mulcahey who worked tirelessly on the pontoons and always greeting us with a smile! Also fantastic job by our team captains Kate and Janine who organised us beautifully.

So many highlights- catching up with our pink sisters from the other crews, racing hard, dancing, crossing the 1km finish line under Atalantis rainbow, Sue Ps daughters race day cookies, meeting the Mayor of Footscray and earning some hard won bling!
