Parents navigating raising a neurodivergent child, often live in constant mental planning.

Appointments.

Therapies.

School communication.

Future worries.

Your brain rarely gets to switch off.

This simple grounding exercise gently brings your mind back into the present moment instead of the “what ifs.”

It won’t solve everything.

But it can interrupt the spiral long enough for your nervous system to settle.

And sometimes that small pause is exactly what your brain needs.

Save this for the moments when your thoughts start racing.

Reset In 5

Digital Detox time!

Time to turn off your phone, device, or watch or switch them to silent mode and put on "do not disturb".

Take a moment to simply "Be", and begin by noticing all the objects around you.

What are they? Trees or plants outside, pets, or objects on your desk? Perhaps a view in the distance?

Notice their shape, colours, & textures. What else are you aware of?

Turning your attention to your feet (yes).

What do they feel like? What are they on or connected to? What other sensations are you aware of? The sensation of them being in shoes, on carpet or the floor? It's Ok if you can not sense anything, simply be aware of that.

Place, gently your hand on your belly, noticing any rise and fall or internal sounds and movements.

When you're ready, allow yourself to come back to the here and now, go for a walk or get up and stretch before going back to whatever it was that you were doing.

Reset In 5 Moment - Touch

Time for a 5 Minute Reset.

So, taking a moment, notice what you may be touching right now.

What are you noticing about the surface or object you may be holding? Textured, smooth or a combination? Perhaps allowing yourself to notice how it's shape feels to touch?

If you are not holding or touching anything, perhaps take a moment to notice how your body feels against the surface that you are sitting on? Standing on? Notice the pressure of your body or feet.

Perhaps it's the sensation of clothing against your skin? Is it soft or heavy? Does feel nice or unpleasant?

What else are you aware of? Take a moment to notice one thing about surface, object or sensation, simply notice.

Mindfulness moments needn't take a long time 🙂

“This is the only quiet moment I get.”

The house is still.
The tea is warm.
But your mind is still running.
You don’t need more time.

You need a way to actually rest.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, is a diverse group of brain development conditions.

In 2021, about 1 in 127 people worldwide were estimated to be on the autism spectrum.

Signs may appear in early childhood, but many go undiagnosed for years.
Early understanding and support can make all the difference.

What parents are saying........."I love my child, but I'm so tired"

This is something many parents say quietly.

Not because they don’t adore their child.

But because parenting a neurodivergent child can require an incredible amount of emotional energy.

Advocating.
Regulating.
Explaining.
Supporting.

Often all in the same day.

Feeling tired doesn’t mean you love your child any less.

It simply means you’re carrying a lot.

You’re not alone in that.

WHAT WE KNOW IS ACTUALLY IN THE SENATE-PASSED NDIS BILL

Here are the facts:

The new functional capacity framework remains. The definition was amended to address assistive technology and age-appropriate support for children, but the framework itself remains.

NDIS access and reassessment rules are changing. Participants will be able to request an unscheduled reassessment for foreseeable as well as unforeseeable changes. If the NDIA does not decide that request within 90 days, it can be treated as refused so the participant can access review rights.

There is a new plan variation pathway for some participants with high support needs, including people requiring 24-hour support.

Alternative supports outside the NDIS remain part of the framework. An amendment protects existing participants before 2028 from having their access revoked because of the alternative support requirements, but the broader provisions remain.

Family and informal supports remain relevant to NDIS decision-making. The wording around how these supports are considered was amended, but they have not been removed from the Bill.

The new framework planning system remains.

The Bill retains significant Ministerial rule-making powers. This matters because not every detail about how these changes will work is contained in the legislation passed today. Some of that detail will be determined later through NDIS Rules and legislative instruments.

The Bill also contains expanded NDIA compliance, investigation and information-gathering powers.

Debt recovery provisions are changing. Amendments added procedural fairness protections, but the changes to the debt recovery framework remain.

There are also changes to compensation arrangements, including additional rule-making powers and CEO discretion about accounting for compensation.

Plan management supports can be directly funded, and the Minister will have the ability to provide for indexation of new framework plans.

!! We still do not have all of the Rules that will sit underneath this legislation !!

We do not yet know exactly how the new functional capacity framework will operate in practice.

We do not yet know exactly what will qualify as an appropriate alternative support.

We do not yet know how the NDIA will operationalise all of these new powers or how they will affect individual participants and individual plans.

Those are the facts as they stand.

The Senate has passed the legislative framework.

A significant amount of the detail about how that framework will actually operate is still to come.

Today, I'm Grateful for.......

It's time to celebrate the little things.

Gratitude can shift your mindset. What's one thing that you are grateful for today?

What one small thing changed your day or your child's day for the better?

As a parent of a neurodivergent child, it's the little things that make a huge difference.
