Throw out the factory-produced table salt and invest in some nutrient-dense pink Himalayan rock salt.

Pink Himalayan rock salt is a natural salt that can help to regulate water content in the body.

If you are drinking lots of water, urinating frequently and still feeling thirsty, try adding a pinch of pink Himalayan rock salt to your water daily.

The salt helps the body to absorb the water and most people will feel more hydrated, with less of those pesky bathroom trips!

🥑 A study has shown that intake of monounsaturated fats (the type found in avocados) is related to successful
ART pregnancy rates. 🥑

These fats are believed to improve fertility by lowering inflammation in the body and improving egg and embryo quality.

Avocados are high in vitamin E, which is important for egg health in addition to increasing s***m motility and health.

Studies have shown vitamin E can be beneficial in improving the uterine lining and can also help with embryo implantation.

Avocados are also packed with folate and vitamin B6, which helps to support progesterone levels and implantation. Avocados are a great way to keep you feeling satisfied when you are reducing grains in your diet.

Start by eating half an avocado most days.

Hormone problem… or not?

It can be tricky to tell if your symptoms are reflective of a hormone problem or if they are symptomatic of something else such as a busy lifestyle or poor diet. In most cases, it’s a combination of both.

For example, stress, not eating enough fibre and veggies, indulging in too much sugar and caffeine, not getting enough sleep or moving our body enough all result in unhappy hormones.

So the first step in achieving optimal health is to make a plan to implement a healthy lifestyle and good nutrition to give your hormones the best chance to balance out.

You could start with the following five ideas, and if your symptoms remain, it would be worth talking to a health professional to investigate your hormones and symptoms in more detail.

Due to the many food aversions and cravings in pregnancy, I am a big advocate of promoting ANY fresh source of protein or veggies that the expectant mum finds appealing!

If food aversions are not an issue I would recommend including:

Organic eggs - for protein and choline

Sardines - full of omega-3’s, protein, B12 and calcium

Brazil nuts - for selenium and protein

Sweet potatoes - for vitamin A, fibre and ensuring healthy blood sugar levels

Chia seeds - for protein, calcium, fibre and antioxidants

BLASTOCYST QUALITY..
🌱
In Italy, every viable embryo has to be kept or used. Even anuploid embryos are kept frozen - forever…
🌱
Therefore they have great data on embryo quality and success!
🌱
Blastocyst quality is associated with euploidy - excellent quality embryo has a 56% chance of having healthy chromosomes compared to 25% in a “poor quality”embryo ..
🌱
Poor quality embryos and day 7 blastocysts have lower implantation potential..
🌱
The third slide shows an image of 21 embryos. They are all “poor quality” blastocysts made by poor prognosis patients but all made babies in the Italian clinic. These would likely have been discarded if not for their laws.. they have around a 7% chance of being euploid (not high but not nothing if it’s all you have!)
🌱
Day 7 embryos have a 21.5% of being euploid - as opposed to 56% day 5
🌱
Different embryologists will choose to keep or discard the same embryo..
🌱
Important to understand which patient we are treating and personalise decision making and treatment options.
🌱
It’s also important to note that most poor quality embryos will not achieve a live birth but also that the definition of poor quality differs between labs and also doesn’t mean there is no chance!

Oooh this is such a tricky one as hormones can affect so much of our health and wellbeing!

The most common issues would have to be PMS (moodiness and fatigue), irregular periods, painful periods and difficulty with conception or miscarriage.

Sadly, I am also seeing more and more young women coming off the Pill and not getting their periods for many months or even years.

Of course there are also the common hormonal conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid disorders and adrenal fatigue.

Adequate sleep is essential for good health and happy hormones.

Unfortunately, we often sacrifice sleep time for work, household chores and leisure time.

Most experts agree that women need an average of seven to nine hours of sleep each night for optimal health.

The answer? Prioritise your sleep time. Try to create a sleep routine in which you go to bed at the same time each night and wake at the same time each morning.

The recommended daily amount for good health is closer to 30-35g daily.

Fibre is important for health, however our bodies need time to get used to processing larger than usual amounts of fibre. When the current diet is low in fibre, increasing the amount too quickly can cause temporary problems such as bloating and abdominal discomfort. It is important to consume enough fluids when increasing dietary fibre so it can form a gel which passes easily through the body.

Unprocessed bran should not be consumed in large amounts as it can reduce the absorption of important minerals such as iron and can increase flatulence, pain, bloating and loose bowel movements.

Great sources of fibre to slowly increase in your daily diet are chia seeds, linseeds, legumes, nuts, hummus, fruit and vegetables.
