Nash's Bright Minds Workshops – Presenting in Primary Schools Across Our Community 🧠✨

Not all brains think, learn, or communicate in the same way and that's something worth celebrating.

Nash is currently partnering with Rozelle Public School through our Bright Minds Workshops. These interactive sessions help learners explore and understand what makes every mind unique through discussions and activities focused on:

🧠 Unique Brains – Everyone thinks differently
🌈 Neurodiversity – Understanding different ways of being and learning
🤝 Inclusion – Creating environments where everyone belongs
👀 Sensory Differences – How people experience the world in different ways
💪 Brain Strengths – Recognising individual talents and abilities
🚫 Mythbusters – Breaking common misconceptions
⚖️ Equity vs Equality – Understanding what fairness really means
💬 Communication Styles – Exploring ways people connect and communicate

When children say “tat” instead of “cat” or “wed” instead of “red”, they may be experiencing a speech sound delay or disorder — difficulty learning the speech sounds needed for clear communication 👂🗣️. If you’re concerned about your child’s speech clarity, a speech pathologist can help identify which sounds and patterns need support.

One evidence-based therapy approach we often use is minimal pairs. Minimal pairs are two words that differ by just one sound, such as:

🔑 key / tea
🚛 car / tar
🔴 red / wed

These word pairs help children hear how changing one sound can change the meaning of a word — an important step toward clearer speech.

Simple ways to practise minimal pairs at home:

🎲 Play matching or memory games with picture cards
📚 Read books and listen for target sounds together
🗣️ Use “Oops!” moments (“Did you mean tea or key?”)
🚗 Practise during everyday routines like car rides or bath time
👏 Keep practice short, playful and positive

Little bursts of consistent practice can make a big difference over time 💛

"Look at that giant stick!"
"I can hear birds!"
"Race you to the tree!"

Language development doesn’t just happen sitting at a table. It happens in real life.
When children explore the world, they’re also learning new words, taking turns in conversation, asking questions, describing what they see and building connections.

The pressure to “teach” can feel huge as parents… but some of the best learning happens when we simply slow down and join in.

Next time you're out with your little one, try following their lead:
🍃 Notice what they notice
🐞 Talk about what you see
❓ Ask open-ended questions
💬 Add one or two extra words to what they say

Sometimes language therapy looks a lot like just being together 🥰

This Reconciliation Week, we’re reading books by First Nations authors from our local library. Stories open the door to conversations, understanding and respect. It’s never too early to start learning.

Listening. Learning. Growing together. ❤️💛🖤

We hear the word “thing” all the time—but it’s a missed opportunity to build stronger language skills 🧠

✨ Why does this matter?
Using specific words helps children (and adults!) to:
⭐️ Be clearly understood when sharing ideas
⭐️ Build longer, more detailed sentences in both speech and writing
⭐️ Expand vocabulary and learn new, more precise words

💡 Small change, big impact:
Swap “thing” for real descriptions and watch language grow!

What is Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)?
A neurological 🧠 speech sound disorder that affects the precision and consistency of movements. The cause of CAS may be known or unknown. The core impairment is in programming movements for speech. Children with CAS will have errors in the production of their sounds and words. They may also have difficulty with prosody (i.e., volume, rate, and rhythm) of their speech 💬

There are lots of great therapy options for children with CAS! 💪

🤔 Ever wondered how to help your child navigate everyday social situations with more confidence?

📖Social Stories are short, clear, and supportive tools that help children understand what to expect and how to respond. They're especially helpful for autistic and neurodivergent children, and those who feel overwhelmed in new settings.

✨At our clinic, we can help personalise social stories to suit your child’s unique needs—because when children feel prepared, they thrive.
