Menopause can make food feel like a moving target. What worked for years suddenly doesn’t, sleep is patchy, energy dips, and your body shape shifts — and then someone tells you to just cut carbs. You don’t need another rule. You need a plan that supports your bones, your blood sugar and your sleep, and still lets you enjoy dinner. I’m an Accredited Practising Dietitian in Orange and Dubbo, working from a non-diet, Health at Every Size approach. Medicare rebates may apply with a GP referral.

YES!! ❤️🤗

I know we want to protect our children.

We don’t want them to be bullied or made fun of. We want them to be happy and healthy and feel good in their body.

And when we have a child in a larger body it can bring up all those fears:
What if they’re ‘too big’ and they’ll be unhealthy?
What if other kids make fun of their belly?
What if they don’t like their body?

This parenting thing is no joke!

And we also have so many ideas about what it means to have a bigger body. It’s conditioned in us.

So it might be really hard to see your child in a larger body. Bring up stuff within you about how they look and what that means or will mean for them.

I get it!

Yet, our children also need us to be their number one fan. A safe place to come. A place of love and nonjudgment. The place they can come when someone says something hurtful.

That’s what they need.

If you have a child in a larger body and it brings up something in you, something that feels like you want to change it. Or that it’s hard to look at. Or you notice you have some judgment, it’s ok. You’re a normal human who has been conditioned by this culture.

It makes sense! And… you can do the work 🩵

You don't have to fear food.

My approach is non-diet and non-judgemental. No endless elimination, no shame, and no "good" or "bad" foods — just the least restrictive way to help you feel well, with the fewest changes for the biggest relief.

No judgement here — come as you are. helenbarnett.com.au

Your gut and brain are always talking.

Stress can wind up sensitive gut nerves, and gut distress can feed anxiety — it runs both ways. That's why calming your symptoms means caring for the whole picture: food, stress, sleep and routine. It's real, and it's not all in your head.

Let's care for the whole picture. helenbarnett.com.au or call 6884 1804 to make an appointment.

Living with Crohn's or colitis? Food shouldn't scare you.

Around 82% of people with IBD have worries around food — and it's easy to over-restrict and miss out on nutrition you need. Together we'll protect your nutrition through flares and remission, and find a way of eating that helps you feel stronger day to day.

Food should support you, not scare you. helenbarnett.com.au or give us a call on 6884 1804

When eating is hard for your child, it's hard for the whole family. You're not on your own with this.

I'm a paediatric dietitian — and I'm also a neurodivergent mum of neurodivergent kids. I've lived through the meals that ended in tears (mine and theirs), the child who would only eat three foods, and the endless second-guessing about whether I was making things better or worse. So when families come to me anxious, exhausted, or worried they're "doing it wrong," I get it — not just professionally, personally.

I work from a Responsive Feeding foundation, with training through the Ellyn Satter Institute, the Get Permission Institute, and Naureen Hunani's neuro-affirming dietetic care.

What that looks like in practice: your child's signals — hunger, fullness, comfort, distress — matter, whatever their age or ability. Felt safety comes first. Pressure, bribery and sneaking might win a few bites today, but they cost trust and appetite in the long run. We build mealtimes on curiosity, not control.

Support for fussy eating, ARFID, feeding challenges, growth concerns, and ADHD/autism-related nutrition.

Appointments in Orange, Dubbo and via Telehealth. NDIS welcome (self- and plan-managed). Book below, or call reception on 02 6884 1804.
