What are we teaching our children through the way we treat people who think differently to us?⁠

We seem to be living in a time where division is everywhere. Differences in opinion, politics, gender and identity can sometimes feel louder than our shared humanity.⁠
⁠
As a psychologist, I believe one of the most important lessons we can teach our children isn't about being right. It's about being curious, compassionate and respectful. Learning to listen. Learning to disagree without devaluing others.⁠
⁠
The world needs more kindness, connection and compassion and that starts with the example we set every day.⁠
⁠

We often think of burnout as simply being exhausted.⁠
⁠
But from a psychologist's perspective, burnout is far more complex than that.⁠
⁠
It's a sign that our mind and body have been carrying more stress, pressure and responsibility than they can sustainably manage. Over time, our nervous system starts sending signals that something needs to change.⁠

The question is: are we listening to what it's trying to tell us?⁠

As a psychologist, one of the most common misconceptions I hear is that you need to be in crisis before seeking support.

In reality, many people come to therapy because they're feeling overwhelmed, navigating a life transition, struggling with stress, anxiety, relationships or simply feeling disconnected from themselves.
Psychological support isn't just about getting through difficult times. It's about understanding yourself, building resilience and developing practical strategies to support your wellbeing.

You don't need to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes rest feels harder than being busy?

For many people, slowing down can bring up feelings of guilt, discomfort or even anxiety. We live in a culture that often celebrates productivity, achievement and being constantly switched on, so it's not surprising that many of us have learned to associate our worth with what we do rather than who we are.

The reality is that rest isn't something we need to earn. It's a psychological and physical need that helps us recover, regulate our nervous system and show up more fully in our lives.

If rest feels uncomfortable, be gentle with yourself. Like any skill, learning to slow down can take practice.

As May comes to a close, this is your reminder to pause and check in with yourself beyond just “busy” or “tired.”

Psychologically, when we spend long periods under stress, the nervous system can begin to treat overwhelm as normal. We keep pushing through, staying productive and coping externally, even when we’re emotionally exhausted underneath it all.

A few gentle questions to reflect on as we move into June:
• What has been taking most of my emotional energy lately?
• Have I been genuinely coping - or just pushing through?
• What’s one thing my mind or body might be needing more of right now?
Sometimes awareness is the first step toward feeling more grounded again.
