🌿 Treatment Frequency Matters 🌿 Hoping for lasting relief after a single treatment?
Just as fitness, learning a new skill, or recovering from an injury takes time and consistency, acupuncture works best when treatments are received regularly, with each session building upon the last.
We will always recommend a realistic personalised treatment plan based on your specific needs, overall patterns of health, history and goals.

🌿 What should I wear to my acupuncture appointment?

A common question, especially by people coming for their first treatment.

Loose, comfortable clothing is usually ideal. Many acupuncture treatments can be performed by simply rolling up sleeves or pant legs, without needing to change clothes.

If we need to treat an area such as your back or shoulders, I'll explain everything beforehand and we'll work together to find an approach that feels comfortable for you. Although I provide very modest draping, some people choose to wear a singlet with loose straps, while others bring a button-up shirt to wear backwards during treatment. It's a simple idea that provides easy access to the treatment area while helping them feel comfortably covered.

Your comfort, privacy and dignity are always important. There is never just one way of doing things, and we'll always find an approach that feels right for you. 🌿

What can you expect at your first acupuncture appointment?

If you've never had acupuncture before, it's completely normal to feel a little unsure about what to expect.

Your first appointment begins with a conversation. We'll discuss your main concerns, your health history, and what you're hoping to achieve from treatment. There'll be plenty of time to ask questions, and I'll explain everything before we begin.

Your treatment is tailored to you. Usually only a few acupuncture needles are needed, unless you prefer a stronger style. My gentle approach is always available if you're feeling nervous. There is never any pressure to do more than you're comfortable with.

Once the needles are in place, you'll have time to relax comfortably with blankets, (including a heated table blanket), bolsters and an eye pillow if you'd like. Here you have full permission to take a well deserved day-nap.

My aim is for you to leave feeling informed, comfortable and cared for, knowing what to expect from your treatment and any recommended follow-up care. 🌿

🌿 "How many acupuncture treatments will I need?"

The answer is different for everyone. While some people notice changes quickly, many ongoing health concerns have developed gradually over months or years.

Just as fitness, learning a new skill, or recovering from an injury takes time and consistency, acupuncture works best when treatments are received regularly, with each session building upon the last.

Small, consistent steps can sometimes carry us much further than we first imagined. 🌿

🌿 Why Treatment Frequency Matters 🌿

Many people come for acupuncture hoping for lasting relief after a single treatment.

While some people do experience significant changes quickly, especially for recent injuries or mild symptoms, most ongoing health concerns have developed gradually over months or years.

Just as fitness, learning a new skill, or recovering from an injury takes time and consistency, acupuncture often works best when treatments are received regularly, with each session building upon the last.

After many years in practice, treatment frequency remains one of the most common questions I'm asked. I've shared some thoughts about why recommendations can vary from person to person, and why regular care can make all the difference.

Stress lives in the body too 🌿

Sometimes people don’t realise how much stress they’re carrying until they finally slow down.

Stress can show up in the body in so many different ways… tight shoulders, jaw tension, headaches, poor sleep, fatigue, feeling overwhelmed, or simply never feeling fully relaxed.

One of the things I love most about acupuncture is creating space for the nervous system to slow down and reset.

Many people arrive feeling like they’ve been “pushing through” for a very long time before they finally give themselves permission to pause.

I recently wrote a new article about stress, the body, and supporting the nervous system through modern life’s constant mental and physical demands 🌿

“I’m terrified of needles.” This is one of the most common things I hear before a first acupuncture treatment.

And honestly… that’s completely okay 🌿

Recently, a lovely client came in feeling extremely nervous about acupuncture. So before we even began, we simply slowed everything down.

I always aim to approach treatments gently and at a pace that feels comfortable for each person, especially if someone is feeling anxious or unsure.

We talked.

She held one of the tiny acupuncture needles in her hand.

Looked at it closely.

Asked questions.

No pressure. No rushing.

Eventually we decided to try just one very small needle.

The moment it went in, she looked completely confused and burst out laughing:

“Wait… THAT was it?!”

Many people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture can feel, especially when treatments are approached slowly and supportively.

I recently wrote a new article about this experience and the gentle approach I often use in clinic 🌿
